Title: June 2014 Planning
Post by: Hank on January 20, 2014, 10:06:27 AM
I assume the normal weekend and location work again?

Lets discuss it here.

Holy crap its this time already???  This would be a great pre game to my CDT ride in July. Count me in. (I will try to not break a leg just before this one)

Stay healthy Sarg. Looking forward to riding with you.

I suggest that we start calling it the June rally.  I think it might stick in people's mind more and more likely to make it onto a calender.  If it's any later in June, it won't be spring any longer.

Osnabrock, you have a good point.  First day of summer is actually June 21st.    I would support having the rally earlier in the future, but it doesn't really matter to me.  I do think the weather is usually a little better as you get closer to July.

We are going to need a single track scouting party. Trail conditions are going to be .... Im not sure how things are going to be after last years storm. Im sure there are going to be obstacles.

Haven't we always called it the June rally?      I think I have, but maybe its not been official.

That is a good point that Osnabrock make. Ever since I joined the fray I've referred to it as the Spring Rally. It would indead make more sense to call it the June Rally. It sounds like semantics but sometimes a change in semantics make things a bit clearer.

I can change your handle - just let me know what you want it to be.

Planning? Why would we do that?  :o

Maybe a new trail permit is in order.

Shoot I just planned. Well then, I'm also planning to have a good time with you fine folks. It's been awhile. I hope you are all well.

I really enjoyed the ride last year, but unfortunately this year it is on my birthday and I have company coming.  Last year I bent the front mount on my KLR650/sidecar rig, but it is repaired now and ready to go.  Maybe next year.

Please keep me on the email list

Good to hear the hack is fixed. Remember, there's always the Fall rally in September. Hop to ride with you again.

I'm trying to get organised with Jake to come out. He's got a brand new job, and trying to be careful about taking time off in his only second month. Do people ride more on Friday or Sunday? Thinking about whether best to come out Thursday, ride Friday and Saturday, return Sunday; or come out Friday, ride Saturday and Sunday, go home Monday. Thoughts?
Title: Re: June 2014 Planning

People ride more on Friday than Sunday. I'd say half or more of the people make it here on Thursday and ride all day Friday and all day Saturday. Another half I'd say ride for half the day on Sunday, the other half leaves for home early.

Just an FYI.. from an undisclosed source: Northern hills FS was a little miffed at the amount of trail damage last weekend and will be writing tickets this weekend for land damage so be careful around the water holes.

Just curious but was it motorcycle specific damage or ATV, UTV and 4x4 damage. Also, from you guys that have been riding in the hills for a while, when is it "okay" to go around a mud hole, instead of thru, specifically if it takes you off the trail a bit. Is there some kind of trail easement/right of way defined, or is this the crux of the problem, people going around and causing more damage.

I think it was mostly 4 wheeled things? not sure what is appropriate as far as going around, but I think as long as you are not deliberately tearing things up you are fine. On the other hand if you are ripping across a muddy meadow expect a ticket..
