Thats pretty cool. Wish I was able to get out to watch this. I take it this is the first time for this event?

The ski area itself is not much to talk about but I can see it being a great venue for motorcycle racing.

Good luck to you and hope the event is a success.

First one that I know of. They are getting more and more into motor sports. They had a really good turn out for the snow cross. Its a couple local guys that organized the event.

Any advise I need before I race? It'll be my first race ever and first scramble.

I'm thinking ride hard off the line then just ride after I get comfortable. I'm not going to compete to hard.

Sadly I don't have one. If someone wants to strap one to me I'd wear it. I'm super excited!

Open amateur on my 2007 YZ450.

I've been told its mostly open area 3/4th gear riding. Not many technical sections either.

I'm sold!  Sounds like it will be a fun time.  Planning on bringing the xr650r to terrorize that poor ski resort!
Who knows, I may end up even getting a ribbon out of the deal too.   ;D

Hey guys, thought I'd go check it out, didn't know who was who so I cheered for everyone!
I was surprised there was no information on the group, the race, etc for spectators. Just a thought I guess. Next year I'll be looking for the 650cc and up class

I didn't make it to the harescramble, I think I did see chickenhaulers mighty 690 pull into Rice Honda though. Didn't recognize you without the riding shorts.

I was in the parking lot with a couple KLR's from Manitoba.

I went up to yesterday's Hare Scramble also.  As soon as I pull into Deer Mountain's parking area, I see Vickers427 (Austin).  Not much to see on the bottom, so we went up on top of the ridge where they were actually racing.  We had them buzzing by on both sides of us.  We saw dufferv65 go by several times.  On one lap, his rear tire hit a big rock, I thought he was going over the front, but he saved it.

We moved to another location, trying to get to a better spot, and found that we were riding on the racing track!  Oops, we moved right away.  We sat there the rest of the race.  Friendly group, we got lots of waves as they went by.  One guy waved hi, and motioned to us how sore/tired his arms were!  Couple of father/son pairs were there, and at least one father/daughter pair.  (I thought of Wacked and B-wacked doing this!) And finally, an old 1981 XR with handlebars that looked like they were off of an ATV.  This guy was riding on the "ragged edge" in jeans and old 80s style helmet with bolt on face protector.  Every time he came around you could hear him first before seeing him.  It was great.

Austin got a video of the start of the race, hopefully it turns out, it sounds really funny.

After the race, Austin and I left for Galena area to find the "Chinese Walls or Hercules Walls."

We finally ended up at Nemo to find a band playing and a big celebration for Nemo's 125th Anniversary.   Here's the link;  http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB4QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Frapidcityjournal.com%2Fnews%2Fstate-and-regional%2Fnemo-celebrating-th-anniversary-this-weekend%2Farticle_7710855d-1998-5d41-9f37-ce723f3c5860.html&ei=hfceVOHBOZKHyATphIDYAw&usg=AFQjCNH9bDM6GzCdZ5Du7q4MAEyJFZUq1A&bvm=bv.75775273,d.aWw
It was a fun afternoon, and a lot better weather than last weekend!  Thanks Austin.

That is funny, I remember hitting that hidden "big rock" and thought what the heck, then I looked to see if any one seen me do that.  Sure as heck, I seen a couple people (you being one of them) then just waved or looked at them like I knew what I was going  :D  There were a bunch of such hidden hazards that caused me to wipe out only like 2 - 4 times.

Anywho, ended up getting 3rd in my class and came home with this awesome trophy sitting on my peg.

I took second place in Open amateur! The track was a blast. My bike ran flawlessly. I rode hard every other lap and only had to gas up once.

My buddy shane decided to race at the last second and had fun too despite looping it out like six times through out the day, once being on the parade lap haha and another time right off the start. Not even out of first gear. And he was the only one started so he would have been gone but he kinda messed that up. So I was leading my buddy Devon and Trev for the first lap. The I slowed down to save my self from exhaustion. I didn't get passed until some of the 35+ guys caught up. It was nice being able to ride the first few laps with no one around and really get a feel for the course.
About the third or fourth lap I start catching other classes and there was a mix of everyone through out the track. Which made it really fun. The pro class passed me once and I tried to keep up for about 30 seconds. No way. Those guys were strait up cookin. One the second to last lap I passed my buddy devon in the tight tree section who was in second in our class. After the I rode hard because I knew he'd be trying to catch up. Well I get to the gate and he's already there. I thought right away he skipped some track but his front brake was locking up so he was out. I wasn't sure where I stood but I knew I was top two. SO I hauled butt on the last lap.

Thats crazy I actually asked ya what you were riding just after we got our pic taken.  How many laps did you end up with?  I ended up with 9 and just finished behind the pro vet guys.
It was sure fun but wish the track was marked better.  Got the hole shoot then got so excited got off coarse to have everyone pass me. :(

Funny! I'm not sure on how many laps. I just rode and rode and rode. Yeah the first lap was fun watching everyone over shoot turns and end up off the track or going the wrong way. The parade lap was funny to cause of how hard people were trying and spraying people and overall goon riding that was taking place. Kinda pissed me off so I had to pass those people.
