Anyone have a tall windshield for a KLR laying around they want to get rid of?   Are they worth buying?        I hear mixed reports so if I could buy  a used one cheap that would be good, after all I ride a KLR
:cheers

I bought some scrap lexon (I think) from lowes for $6.00 and made my own. with pieces to spare and used it for the better bart of a year untill it broke this year. I think mine was 15" taller than stock. Not sure how tall you are and if you ride off road much but they do make off road riding a little tougher because you can't get over the bars because of the height of the wind sheild. It was not as pretty but it was a fraction of the cost and it did work.

How did you bend it, or was it thin enough to bend and fit? any pics?
The KLR mainly does gravel, minimum maintainance, and fire roads, very little tough single track, I've got other equipment for that. Thanks

I made one out of lexan. I heated it with a torch and bent it into shape. Worked great for two years and then one day I was riding along and this tall guy (yeti) with a camera, was standing right in my path and I slammed into him. This tragic incident resulted in a broken windshield. I have not yet built another. (search the site you can find video of the incident)
The DIY Lexan / plexiglass windshield is Easy and cheap to make for my DR.
You might want to consider a much fancier sort of shield.
I have since developed a more reliable and environmentally friendly windshield. I took an old license plate bent it and put some molding around the egdes. Its really fancy demonstrates South Dakota pride and works great. Sure to cut your head off in an accident.

I also used the torch and I installed it over the stock if I wanted to take it off and give it a little more stiffness. Not sure how tall you are but I think mine was 13" taller than stock and it did get in the way when riding off road. Did great deflecting the wind and bugs though. I thought if you swapped out the cheap plastic nuts and used wing nuts in the front it would make swapping a snap.
