The 2017 Dakota Dual Sport Riders June rally will once again be held in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota! Camping will be at the Fish 'n Fry campground just south of Deadwood, SD: http://www.fishnfry.com/
Location is here:

We will be staying on the Hillside Loop once again.
Dates are June 15, 16, 17, & 18, 2017. You can arrive anytime after noon on Thursday, June 15, departing on Sunday, June 18. Weather should be dry and warm - avg high 78, avg low 52. BUT, this is South Dakota...if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute. ;-) Cell service has been OK in the campground the last couple years, and its only 2 miles to the top of Strawberry Mountain if you do have trouble.
Entry Fee: FREE!
Camping: Tents - $?? per person/night, RVs/Campers - $?? per night. You will pay the campground when you arrive, no pre-payment required. I will reserve all tent sites from entries on this sign-up thread. FnF have cabins available as well, but you will need to reserve those yourself by calling Gary or Michelle. Also please call and reserve RV sites on your own. Make sure you tell them you are with DDSR to get the special discount!
Fish 'n Fry phone number: (605) 578-2150
We will have enough room for plenty of tents. RV sites near the tent sites are at a premium and need to be reserved as far in advance as possible, although there will be plenty of RV spots available away from "ground zero".
The rally is open to any and all skill levels of riders with any motorcycle that is street legal in SD (doesn't take much: headlight, taillight & license plate is about it). All attempts will be made to keep the amount of pavement on our rides to a minimum, but it is a necessary evil in the Black Hills to get from one trail to another sometimes.
Rides can range from gravel/easy fire roads to rocks to single track to really gnarly rocks & single track, hillclimbs, etc. There will be something for everybody!
The Fish 'n Fry campground (FnF) has full showers (coin operated, bring a couple of quarters if you don't want to smell like a dirty biker!), real bathrooms (with sinks & mirrors!), a general store (with beer), a small restaurant (with beer on tap!) and a grill and shelter we can use if it rains. 24hr gas station/convenience store right across the street, and Deadwood is only 10 minutes away. There are picnic tables, but if you want a guaranteed seat by the fire you better bring your own.
Electricity is available to charge cell phones, iPods, etc., however it is outside, so use at your own risk!
Firewood from outside the campground is not permitted (sometimes an exception is made for us DDSR folks, though).
The FnF has bundles of wood for $??
Limited food will be provided, but plan on fending for yourself during the day.
- Organized food TBA
Cars, trucks & bike trailers will have room to park, but could be a ways away from your campsite.

Thank you Other Brother! I signed up the day Hank posted the ride and no one else has signed up since. I'm not sure what I said but I was afraid that I killed off the rally. ;D
This reminds me that I haven't booked a camp site yet. I better get after that tomorrow.

Early? I've already booked a room in Spearfish for a June of 2018 combination FJR rally / DakAL ride. Now that's early planning, but I get a little excited when I get to ride bike outside of North Dakota.
Good god, someone scheduled our family reunion for the 17th of June, and my mother thinks she wants to come home for my retirement in September when I was planning to ride the DakAL with Sleddogs group. I have spent too much time and money this winter on off road gear and getting my XR650L set up to miss these two rides. >:(

I talked to Michelle & Gary today. They are getting absolutely full. If you're bringing a camper or RV you better get them called. They are even a little worried about enough tent spaces. Gary said he's planning on the normal amount of tents so he figures it will be okay.

I'm toying with the idea of picking up a used WR450 to bring along but it has not been made street legal. Would it be advisable to have a plated bike to ride or is this area nearly all off road?
Three weeks with out a post about the June Rally. I know its two months away but I don't know if I can get much more excited. Now I just need to find time to get the boxes and boxes of accessories mounted up on the XR.

cant answer the first part...but as to the rest: would you be ready for a ride around the end of april? begin of may? as a shakedown or just out on the bikes? [AKA motivation to get stuff mounted up]
I ought to be done roofing my place by then--not sure why I thought roofing would make a decent 'get in shape to ride' activity?
You can get directly to dirt from the campground. However, it is considered a road and technically would need to be plated i believe. Trails are a different story, no plate but permit needed. There is one "Trail" across the road from the campground. Getting any bike plated in SD is very easy, and it is easy at times to just jump on to a paved road to get somewhere else quickly on a plated dirt bike. That being said, I have never heard of or seen any kind of enforcement once you are off of the pavement :evil ..............

I'm doing DAKAL prior to this so I'm hoping to do a quick tire swap and get some single track with you. Just tenting it off my pack, I'll try to get that squared with FNF. I'll probably be on my lowly XR250 for the whole thing unless I find a way to bring an extra trail oriented bike. I'll need to go introduce myself on the other page as I'm a newbie to your group but I used to live in the area a long time past and now reside in Michigan.
After missing the last few years, I'm back in.

I'll be coming up for at least one day and I'll for a little single track. Not sure what my plan is yet though
Sent from my Atari 7800
Thanks Mike. Not sure how many will be there early enough on Thursday to take in single track that day. I'm sure there will be some on Friday.
I am planning on coming out on Wednesday. So will be here all on Thursday.

My plan is to be there Wednesday night and riding Thursday - Saturday. I had plans of riding a Iron Mt. / Needles highway loop ride Thursday but I'm open to anything. If the single track is toward the expert end of the scale it might be a little over my head.

I'm up for anything as well. there is some fairly easy singletrack that will burn most of a day?

Let me know what time, I might make it.
I think Kyle and I are unloading at piedmont around 8:30? So can meet you there or Nemo around 9:00??

I'm hoping to meet up with you guys at Nemo around 9:00. Planning to drive up from Custer, drop the camper at Fish and Fry, and unload bike and get to Nemo.
Anybody know how long it takes to ride from F&F to Nemo via Nemo road?
Gerry it's 15 miles from F&F to Nemo.
Sounds good Gerry, we will meet you t the gas station in Nemo around 9:00.
I'm out. I fell last week and my KTM 990 landed on my foot (was wearing mx boots), scheduled a Doctors appointment for Thursday afternoon to make sure I didn't break a bone in my foot.
Have fun riding this weekend!
Well Shit hit the fan this week. I guess I wont be there until tomorrow. See you all then.
I'm out for camping but will try and catch up to ride. Just to busy with work and shit! Plus I was off an entire week with the dates. Thought I had another week to get ready! :o
And my camper spot is open at the fish and fry as well!

Ok Mike, don't wait if I'm not there. The repairs on the bike is taking longer than I budgeted for and I might not have it ready by the morning. Better get back to the garage...
Snooker here. I haven't seen you guys for five years or so since Moab and the infamous "SportFaller Incident" complete with a head scan at the Moab Hospital.
I'll be on my plated KTM 450 so looking for a little more off road then normally on my 650. Should be there about 4 p.m. today Thursday, I'll be tent camping. Maybe a short eve ride tonight near FnF if anyone is interested.
I spent a month this winter ridng in Mexico solo and always fun to talk about it so hit me up sometime. Looking forward to seeing everybody again. -matt
P.S. Too late to take Colorado medicinal orders which is definitely just as well. Keep the rubber side down.
