Dates are September 19, 20, 21 and 22, 2013. You can arrive anytime after noon on Thursday, September 19, departing on Sunday, September 22. Weather should be warm during the day and chilly at night (down into the 20s) BUT, this is South Dakota...if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute. ;-)
RATES:
Entry Fee: FREE!
Camping: Tents - TBD
RVs/Campers - TBD
Cabins - TBD
Make sure you tell them you are with DDSR to get these prices!
The rally is open to any and all skill levels of riders with any motorcycle that is street legal in SD (doesn't take much: headlight, taillight & license plate is about it). All attempts will be made to keep the amount of pavement on our rides to a minimum, but it is a necessary evil in the Black Hills to get from one trail to another sometimes.
Rides can range from gravel/easy fire roads to rocks to single track to really gnarly rocks & single track, hillclimbs, etc. There will be something for everybody!
We try to pitch in and provide some food for the gang, but nothing is guaranteed. The Yeti will most likely bring a pot of chili and nachos, but usually it's not enough to feed everyone. If you want to pitch in, it's appreciated!

PERMITS: Don't forget, permits are now required to ride off-road (on trails designated 'TR' on the new MVU Map) in the Black Hills National Forest.

Just had an "ah-ha" moment - Oredenbacher is Cara, right? Now it all makes sense. :)
I had no idea who Oredenbacher was until just now. She's got some mad photo skills - props!
Oredenbacher - you have it correct @ Cara. :D

Explanation please! :)
Just the brand of popcorn I was eating when I had to pick a name - good stuff! It's my adv name too. Hard to find an unclaimed name on that board.

You showing up the 19th, Ryan?
Hopefully the 19th. For sure on Friday the 20th. It's easier to convince both of my bosses for a Friday off. The one at work and the one at home. ;D
I'll try to round up a few more guys too. I will keep you posted.
I'm in. Although I love them dearly, my wife and my grandchildren are not invited this time. I'm being kinda selfish but my wife understands. The logistics get a little overwhelming for a ride weekend when your planning for nonriding people and 2 of them are under the age of 4. So the Fall rally will be different for me. I may come alone or bring one or both of my boys. I'd bring the daughter in law if she could lose the kids for the weekend but I don't think that will happen. I also don't want the responsibility that goes along with a new rider this time. I have a great time with new or slower riders but I need one time where that's my decision if I ride slow or easy.
That being said, it may be me only, take my truck and my WR250F in the back and roll, OR, myself on my KLR and ride out and sleep in a tent, OR, with my youngest son in the van and pull the bikes and sleep in the van, OR, both sons in the Van and I sleep in the van and they sleep in the tent, OR, Me and my youngest ride the KLR and the Tiger out and I stay to easy stuff and sleep in a tent, or any combination of the above. Phew, that's confusing.

I going to have to back out this year. Riding in Montana and was hit by a dear. Left leg is big time broken
Sorry to hear that, how bad is the leg?
Bummer man. The bad part is you broke your leg. The good part is, you only broke your leg.
I have been known to ride and ski with busted limbs before, just depends on how bad its broke.
Heal quick.
That is a bummer. Hope you heal up fast. When the dust settles fill us in on what happened.
Here is my ADV face plant story. Figure this would be easyest
I'm blaming it on the drugs.

Ouch. That Xray doesn't look very nice. Sounds like you're on the mend though. DR doesn't look too terribly bad off either.

Hey guys,
I've been having trouble finding the time to nail down a campsite....anyone got time to take over for me?? I guess the consensus is trying to get close to Custer for the loop.
Also, it's still up in the air on whether or not Mrs. Yeti and I can make it.....hoping for the best but expecting the worst at this point. :(

I'm not going to be able to bring my GS, so I'm left with my Beta 300RR. It's a road legal dirt bike but its 2 stroke and only gets about 50 miles to a tank. Will that range be too small to hang with you guys?

Nice! Another 2-stroke in the group. :)
50 miles should be plenty for the single track rides. I don't know how things will shape up at this year's fall rally but usually there's a group that does single track / ATV and one or more groups that do longer dual-sport rides.
Perfecto. I'll seeya at the rally with my 300 then.

I could do pulled pork Saturday Night. How many total are signed up for the rally?
Hey I'm most likely not going to be able to make it to the Rally. I needed some parts to make my bike fully road legal and they finally arrived from the factory but were shipped to the wrong address. I ordered the parts to make it road legal when I bought the bike back in July and they were late getting here. I doubt I will be able to procure them and get it legal in time.
Hi all,
Have been following the board for a couple of years. Was wondering if a Nebraska
rider could come join the ride in the hills later this week? Have a DR650. If the "Sprout" gerry1eye is looking for is from Iowa he is off to the east coast this week, he's the one that told me to check with you guys.

After talking with a few of us at Wacked's birthday party, it sounds like a few riders who want to do the custer loop might not be there on Friday. Or at least not till later in the day. So it appears we should plan on the loop for Saturday. I think Bogus Jim was planning on a day of single track, and he's planning (I hope) on leading the custer loop.

Dave I think you and tannerc will have to lead the loop. My WRR is acting up again, I guess ignition coil was not the problem.
Hey Bogus I will bring my DR and KLR You can use one on saturday do we have a place and time to meet in custer on sat am? Bismarck guys will have 2 pickups at nemo by fri nite if somebody had a trailer we could haul some bikes to custer on sat am
Jim
You don't have the headlight disconnected on the WR do you? I remember something goofy about them not running right when you disconnect some of the load on the electrical system. If you remove the light you have to add a resistor?
Quote from: Fletch on September 18, 2013, 10:18:57 AM

No, unless there's a short in the wiring somewhere. I'm not sure what else to try, the problem comes and goes so it is hard to troubleshoot. The bike starts to lose power and then dies, if you toggle the ignition key off and back on, it starts right up again and runs normal. I wonder if the ECU is going bad. Or maybe clogged fuel filter, but if that was the case I'd expect it to run like crap all the time. Fuel pump motor is new so I don't think that is the issue.
bogus Jim

Are you sure your gas tank vent is working? Try opening the gas cap when it quits and listen for a hiss.
Good thought.
