This poor guy got his fingers in the sprocket when he crashed.  I've seen/heard of wrists and fingers getting screwed up on a crash, but......

I had a minibike way back when even stupider than I am now. The chain was very loose and came off. I tried putting the chain back on the rear sprocket with the motor still running. My fingers got caught between the chain and sprocket. Luckily the chain was very loose as stated. I still have a few scars on my fingers to show for it.

Had a rider a couple of years ago at one of my sons hare scrambles do the same thing,
finger through hole in sprocket took it right off. They put his finger back on but I haven't seen the outcome.

The lesson here is, people missing a few cogs should not play with sprockets.
