Looking at one of these gadgets so I can do some more exploring on my own. My question; once I buy the SPOT is there also a monthly/yearly fee involved? Thanks!

Yes, yearly. Cost depends on what service you want. I pay a 199.00 a year for mine. Have had to use it a couple of times.

Grubbie, I have one and my wife loves it. I thhink I pay 160ish a year but it well worth it for piece of mind if you do alot of solo stuff as I do. My wife loves it cause I have tracking on mine and she can go to the website to see where I am at any given time.

I highly recommend it.
