There was some discussion last year on helmets towards the end of this thread;  http://dev.dakotadualsportriders.com/smf/index.php?topic=880.0

I think "great buffalo" bought one of these.  I believe Atomic-moto has a write-up about the AFX FX39 and the Fly Trekker, kind of a bang for the buck article.

You can't go wrong with the 39 either.    I know quite a number of people that have them and they are well liked.    There is some difference in fit between the 39 and trekker but I don't recall what it is.    Both are real bargains too IMO.  I think the 39 compares pretty well to the hornet which costs about 3x as much.    I had a hornet at one time (very briefly).

The AFX FX 39, the Fly Trekker and the MSR Expedition are all the same helmet. The FX 39 is the least expensive of the lot. I love mine. I just bought one for my daughter in law at my local dealer. I special ordered the red one and cost me 105 bucks. I think its the best bang for the buck in helmets.

I like the FX better than the others because it has the the ratchet chin strap.

Its also easier to hang a 100 bucks on the wall after a hard hit than it is at 250 bucks.

Here's an interesting chart of helmet weights. The carbon/kevlar ones are lighter, no surprise there I guess.
