Title: How I spent the 4th blizzard of April 2013
Post by: Hank on April 15, 2013, 08:57:52 PM
I got the hell out of there :)

This little adventure started with a family trip to the Super Cross in MSP Saturday which, by the way the 450 main, was probably the best race of any kind I have ever seen.   And it ended right too!  Wow was that fun!   Got to see John (Osnabrock) and Jeff (can't recall handle) for a bit.

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130413_194031_630Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130413_194031_630Medium.jpg.html)

We made the mistake of parking RIGHT NEXT to the dome.   OOPS.  Traffic leaving sucked terribly.  2 hours to go 2 blocks.    We finally got to our hotel at midnight.    At 3 am I got up and caught and 5:15 airplane to Jacksonville Florida.    Around 2pm Sunday I looked like this:

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130414_132809_610Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130414_132809_610Medium.jpg.html)

A few hours later I was here:

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130414_145957_944Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130414_145957_944Medium.jpg.html)

And a few hours and 250 miles of rain, I quit here (Dublin GA)

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130414_192949_382.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130414_192949_382.jpg.html)

For some dumb reason I didn't pack my real rain gear.   Just the rain repellant type gear.  Damn that was dumb.    I was soaked to the core.

Today started out like this (sunshine and 65):

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130415_091731_315Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130415_091731_315Medium.jpg.html)

And was a wonderful day.   Here are some images in not necessarily chronological order.. I'll fill in more details later.

This is actually Cara's bike.   But she might have to fight me for it :)

I'll review the bike later, but I will say I'm going to be selling off quite a few bikes so I can get one of these.   This is just a CRAZY good all around bike.   I can't say I've enjoyed another bike this much since????    Wow I love it.

Plan was to be home Friday, but with the weather I might push that out a day or two.   Tomorrow.. the snake and the BRP, or part of it.

More details to come later..

There was a few going from Mitchell but work took me out of going and the race coverage was horrible.

Is the Triumph the roadie or the XS.

The XS is on my short list for next years purchase. Will be interested in your review. Ride safe.

It is an XS.  As long as it is reliable I don't see how a person could go wrong.   I've never heard of any reliability issues either.

Bikergirl4ever has herself a roadie.   Hopefully she'll give us a review too!

Jealous!!!!!

I've had "Tiger Lust" ever since I test drove one last summer.  Cara has excellent taste in bikes!

Haha. We need to get rid of some of this snow so I can ride it and give a review. Lance has ridden his Tiger Explorer a few times and really likes it.

I was up early today.   It looked like this:

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_070037_389Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_070037_389Medium.jpg.html)

Pretty warm and looking good.   Didn't see a drop of rain all day.

Most of the day involved things like this:

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_103136_157Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_103136_157Medium.jpg.html)

I only covered 330 miles.   30-55 mph all day, back and forth between TN and NC about 6 times.

Lots of pretty vistas.

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_133430_784Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_133430_784Medium.jpg.html)

I did take one gravel side route and did a mile hike to see Linville Falls

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_133440_622Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_133440_622Medium.jpg.html)

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_135631_045Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_135631_045Medium.jpg.html)

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_135641_697Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_135641_697Medium.jpg.html)

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_135700_159Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_135700_159Medium.jpg.html)

The tiger didn't blow up or fall apart on this grueling offroad adventure.

Just drove in the parking lot here:

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_155908_640Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_155908_640Medium.jpg.html)

And ended the day on "The snake"

(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa178/jasonh_010/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_164116_881Medium.jpg) (http://s197.photobucket.com/user/jasonh_010/media/TigerTrip/IMG_20130416_164116_881Medium.jpg.html)

This road was just great.   I have some video I'll upload later.   Wow for curves down here!

The 5th blizzard of April 2013 is just starting up here. Better stay out a couple more days, make sure the Tiger is running perfectly for Cara.  ;)

you know there aren't many men that would go all the way to Florida to ride their wife's bike back to SD under such horrible conditions Cara is so lucky. :evil Try to have a good time anyway and be safe. ;) I think I need to start looking for bikes in Florida.

Florida is a good place to buy bikes :)    And, yes, I am very generous to donate my time like this to such a worthy cause.  And yes, if I have to stay longer or ride farther to avoid snow, and test the bike.. so be it :)

Here is a link to my planned route:

http://goo.gl/maps/AOy2B

So far I've stuck pretty close to it.

Day 1 was Jax to Dublin, GA,  Day 2 was Dublin to Townsend, TN (near Maryville), and day 3 was Townsend to Boone NC.

I might swing a little farther south when I get to IN through MO to avoid some weather.

I'm at a loss for words as to how wonderful it is for my dear  :-* husband :-* to ride "my" bike home over a week's time through balmy, scenic paths.  There's no place I'd rather be than home in freezing SD this week with the kids, cats, rabbits, dog and snow storms.  And, I'd really hate to miss out on work.  I might be a really BIG LIAR too ;D

Nonetheless, have a safe & fun birthday vacation week!  Keep it upright!  Don't hit any chupacabras down south.

As soon as possible! Straight south - I think the Ozarks are calling.

No pictures today.  Rained too damn much.  I went from Boone NC north to VA and it started to rain... and rain.. and rain.    I rode one of the most incredible roads of the trip, but rain really dampened (and made wet) that fun.

I cut out my WV loop due to the rain and headed W to KY.   It dried out once I got there.

I went through a little town in VA called "Mouth of Wilson".  That made me laugh.   All those years of Home Improvement and we never got to see it..,.,   Wilson's mouth I mean.    Weird name.

Anyway, I'm safe and dry in Bardstown KY.   They really love their bourbon here.

I took a rather large detour south today.   Left Bardstown and shot SW to avoid your nasty weather.   Crossed all of TN, into AL and then into MS.   Am there now.   Hopefully make north MO or maybe NE tomorrow, then home saturday if the roads are dry.    I'm OK with cold, but not ice!!

Had a lovely 500 mile ride to Warrensburg MO today.    30-35 mph NW winds and temps in the low 40s.. brr!  REALLY glad I had heated gear.  I would have been royally screwed without it.

Tomorrow to Omaha where the cavalry is going to pick me up and haul me home.   Apparently the cavalry heard that it will be 60 in Omaha and was eager to go somewhere warmer.   Good for me too.., no worries of a surprise icy patch.

The Tiger still hasn't blown up!

The Tiger is loaded in Omaha.    States visited:  FL GA SC NC TN VA KY AL MS AR MO IA NE and probably 18 or so border crossings.   It was quite a week!  More later!
