Title: Helmet Cams
Post by: The Yeti on January 05, 2009, 05:37:52 PM
I've been looking at (cheap) helmetcams the last few days and I'm considering this one:

http://www.goprocamera.com/index8.htm

Can get it here for under $140:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/582888-REG/GoPro_GWH5170_Wide_HERO_Digital_Camera.html#features

Or this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Scientific-Waterproof-Recorder-Capabilities/dp/B001A1U4AE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1231198061&sr=8-1

Both around the same price point...from what I've read (and seen on sample vids), the GoPro has better vid quality and wider angle lens, but shorter battery life and less recording capacity (54 min/2GB for GoPro, 2 hrs/4GB for ATC3K), GoPro comes with more mounting options but looks really goofy on top of yer head  ;D

Hmmmm, what to do, what to do.....  ???

I just bought a Go Pro. It seems to be a decent unit for the $. A lot of post on Thumpertalk.

Been considering this one:

(Smaller than it looks here)

From the videos I've seen, has better video quality than the GoPro, and MUCH better audio than the Oregon Scientifics. Also, has much better battery life (quoted at 10 hours on lithiums!) and some nice mounting options.

Will probably be ordering the Tachyon pretty soon.

have an older version of the oregon scientific.  can mount it to a thumper.  wacky vibration/modulation in the video.  strapped to a helmet with some success.
