Thinking of heading up to Medora this fall.  I have the most current grassland map.  it looks difficult at best to make a decent loop on two tracks???

Anybody have any info on the area???

Jud

I was out there last year over Memorial Day weekend. We did not find much at all in the way of rideable 2-track, partly because it rained most of the weekend and anything that looked inviting was gumbo. There is some nice countryside and some well-groomed ranch roads both north and south of I94, although a couple of these were pretty gooey, too. We were looking for an unpaved back route to the northern unit of the park, without success. We were just bushwhacking with a GPS that had no detail for the area. Some good maps and advice from a local would be worthwhile.

We had a nice campsite at the state park south of town, I am drawing a blank on the name at the moment. It is primarily an equestrian camp, with a lot of open area for trailers. However, they have recently developed some nice tent sites in a treed area.

Was at Madora the end of July. Kind of nothing there -small national park ,a play on the hill , some museums and some OK places to eat -about 5 square blocks in the whole town. The North Dakota Bad Lands are not as impressive as the South Dakota ones .

My wife and I spent 4 days riding along the Little Missouri about a month and a half ago. We stayed in Bowman ND two nights  and Medora two nights. We unloaded the bikes at Marmoth ND and rode the camp crook road south into South Dakota taking every little side road we could find. There arn't a lot of trails that take you to far into anything. Having said that the aera has a lot to offer. It is all open range so there is some hill climbing and a lot beautiful scenery. East river road goes south of Medora there is a lot of riding options here. We found trails that took us right down to the river bottom and again very scenic. I have a youtube video of our trip if you want to watch it.        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAmYgUK4iyw

Your videos are AWESOME!  The ones where it looks like your riding through flooded rice patties are just great!  Looks just as challenging as some of our worst rock gardens, but doesn't hurt as much if you fall down!   ;D

When I watched the first vid, I thought, "hmmm...I kinda like Willy Nelson."  Then, I'm watching the second video..."Wow, SRV, this guy's got great taste in music!"

Third video...within 2 seconds I knew who it was.  "WTF? Seriously, U-F-O??  Michael f&$%^#in Schenker???!  I'm the only guy in North America that still listens to U-F-f*&%^in'-O!"

Hats off to ya, brother!  We may be kindred spirits.   ;D
"You want me to ride up THAT?!"

Welcome to the site, and great videos!   Looked like some fun riding.

Geat pictures of SW ND.  I lived in Dickinson in the early 70's and went to the badlands often.  Not on a motorcycle though, as those were my dangerous years (the 20's).  I didn't ride then.  That's how I survived.

I will be retiring from the federal government next year and moving back to ND.  I think the KLR 650 and I will spend some time out there.  Thanks for stirring up some memories and giving me some ideas on where to do some riding.
