People have chimed in ...... Looks like most of the votes are for Sept.19th-22!
Need to back up and say that several locals got together for Breakfast today and argued about stuff. After the arguing got done, the King rapped his scepter on the table 3X and declared that Custer is the 2019 Fall winner. Jerry brought some local knowledge about the campgrounds - Staci had done some scouting and information gathering last year around the hills and has actually visited the 2 campgrounds we have in mind - Sue was on the phone chasing availability and campground info for both N.Hills and Custer
CUSTER!!! Declared the King that his face became Beta red and his pounding of the scepter was so forcible that his right hand slid down the stick nearly ripping the skin off between his thumb and index finger.
Stay tuned. We will have info on where to make your reservations within the next week

Drove out to Custer thinking I knew what Campground was the winner .... and then completely flipped!
This Fall's Rally will be at:
CRAZY HORSE CAMPGROUND - CUSTER
Sept 19th - 22nd
Twila and Dani were great to work with and I think willing to put up with our type of "Red-Neckery". The area where the different types of DDSR campers would hang out - Tenters/RVer's/Cabin dwellers - is in nice proximity to each other. A good hang-out/fire pit area is inter-mingled with these sites that have been reserved.
Bathrooms are great. Showers are free. Prices are reasonable.
The ground was dry and firm!
They are dog friendly.
Gas, Food, and a brewery are just 3 blocks down the hill in the town of Custer
If you want to get a jump on reservations, their #605/517-0213 and ask to be put with the DDSR group - we have some stuff reserved down by the "Meadow". Tell them you're with DDSR
Rates -
Camping with water and Elect $35/night (might have some cheaper tent sites w/o power)
Cabins $45/night ... bring your own bedding and a portable 110V heater or rent their's for more
RV 30 amp full hook-up $45/night
RV 50 amp full hook-up $50/night
There's some sweet country in the Southern Hills - Let's check it out

Thanks

We are 1 month away from DDSR's 2019 Fall Rally!
It will be an awesome time with new territory to explore and some old ground to re-aquantaint ourselves with (Redbird Canyon - Jasper burn - Bogus Jim Loop). Get your camp site or cabin reserved.

Talked to Dave this morning on the phone. Really got me thinking about trying to make this but fall and harvest are crazy. Going to have to wait till last minute and hope things line up or just
Say f$&k it and roll!! Had such a good time riding with you all last time. I'll have the bike and my cold weather camp gear ready to roll and see how it shakes out.
MTKLR -hope this can happen for you! This southern part of the hills are a different experience - should be a blast just the same

3 WEEKS TO RALLY
That's right! In just under 3 weeks we'll be flogging our bikes through the southern hills ....
The Puzzle pieces as they are coming together.....
Lodging - if you haven't reserved your cabin or camper site - get on it!
I know some of you are dragging your feet..... pick up the phone and give Custer Crazy Horse campground a call
Routes -
> Custer Park with Buffalo - I have no idea if you'll be seeing buffalo, but rider par excellence "Great Buffalo" will be
heading a group around the park
> Pringle/Argyle Loop - Looks sweet on the map. Dave and I will be scouting this loop later today
> Jasper Burn/Pilger Run - better make sure your bike can do 150miles. Sexy, big sky country. Going about
as far south in the hills as possible
> Bogus Chunks - Say What? It's taking the original Bogus Jim Loop and cutting it into bite size chunks
> The Wall - Heading NW towards WY to a funky little place called the Wall. Dave is working on the final details
Firewood -
Local resident Gerry has graciously offered to supply wood for night-time bonfire
Food -
Little different than previous years - Instead of doing night-time supper together, planning on morning breakfast @ 7:30.
You are on your own for lunch and supper - supper is just down the hill downtown
** word of caution for lunch ** most of these routes do not have a place for a lunch stop ..... so make sure you stock
up on food/snacks to haul in your pack/tank bag
That's what I know.
Looking forward to a great Fall ride!
One Week to Rally!

Just checked the 10-day forecast. Looks like great riding weather - maybe a little "Fall-ish" so bring your warmer gear.
Remember to down-load Avenza maps before you leave .... MVUM Hell Canyon Rangeer district and MVUM Mystic Ranger district.
If you are renting a cabin, don't forget to bring a box-heater with you to keep you toasty or you can rent a heater from the office. Showers are included so you don't need a roll of quarters
Look forward to seeing you all

FOODJust an reminder on food ...... DDSR is arranging breakfast; Lunch and Supper are on your own
Breakfast - will be up in the Lodge/Office space at the camp-ground. Food will be out 7:30-8:00.
There will be a free-will/donation jar at the end of the table - pay what its worth
Sue and Lisa have arranged for the mornings of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
Make your riding plans, BSing over breakfast, and get out
on the trails by 9:15-9:30
Lunch - Not all trails/loops will bump into a place to eat. So bring some crap to throw into your tank bag
Supper will be in town. Find your group - head 3-4 blocks down into Custer to one of the restaurants
Bonfire Time- Bring something to share - Jerky/Bars/Snacks/Cookies
FYI - we got apx 27 people signed up for this event AND 5-6 "day-riders/lurkers" who we could see at the last moment
Look forward to it - Wacked
Hey Day-Riders!
If you plan on popping in for a quick day ride, I'd suggest showing up to the Custer Crazy Horse Campground around 8:30ish.
That way you can bump into a group that may be heading out to ride the trails you'd be into.
Most groups will likely hit the road 9:15/30ish
You can bump into them milling around the office OR down the hill on the east side of the camp-ground

Thanks to the Saturday single track crew, I had a blast.
Thank You to all that made this Rally Happen
To those willing to head out and lead some rides - Dave, Mike, Dan
To Gerry for rounding up firewood
To the ladies for getting food going - LeAnn, Elisa, Sue, Heidi .... for breakfast and awesome snacks
And ...... although they may not be stalking this site - Custer Crazy Horse Campground - Twyla and crew bent over backwards with hospitality!!!
and there were others that pitched in and made the weekend flow ..... Thanks
Wacked
Heck YA!!!
Had a great time at the fall rally! I wish to give a great big THANKS to all the fine ladies for breakfast. I even had time for a soak in the mud bath this year. The biggest downfall was the 12hr drive home.
Thanks Chuck ;)
It's a full service trail ride Sprout. We want you to be relaxed and comfortable so mud baths are available at appropriate intervals. ;) ;D
