Title: Planning
Post by: Hank on December 27, 2012, 06:18:56 PM
Hey everybody.     I assume we're going to have a spring/summer rally at the FnF again this year, right?   Its been so quiet around here I'm starting to think everyone disappeared!

Looks like our traditional weekend is June 20-22.   Does that work?

At the moment that works, that is the usual.

I think that works for me too, early enough that I can plan around it!

Should be a great weekend for the rally!
If I survive my Colorado Death Ride bicycle Tour in early June, I'll be there.
PS, I've got 4 pies from grandma in the freezer ready for the rally.

sounds fun too me, I really need to get a smaller street legal bike....maybe I can plate the 300??

Fletch, you can get me into enough trouble with your 900.  I think you need to bite the bullet and trade that little red Honda for a mid-size dual sport.  I would suggest a DRZ, but I know that will never happen, wrong color!   I've asked Gage at MX Connection about doing it to other bikes and he always says the same thing.  By the time you put all the stuff on, the stator is too small.  You've got all winter to shop for just the right one, and were all here to support ya. Just let us know how we can help!   :evil

Glad to see all the interest!    I'll work on an official sign up thread here and on ADVrider, unless Yeti still wants the honors, but he's been pretty scarce lately!

I'm anxious to get out riding.  My WR450 is getting a lot of love this winter and it should be in top shape.   Now if I could only say the same about myself :)

Cara has a WR250F and I have the 450F.. both great bikes.    The 450, when completely uncorked, just rips.  I absolutely love it!!

Thinking a little more about this rally...

I've got bambino number 3 due end of May so I may just bring my then 2 year old and 3 year old out and we can tootle around on the 4 wheeler and at least take in the end of day storytelling around the campfire (or lantern if its another dry year).

Wow, Brett, congrats. I'm sooooo glad those days are over, but when they get older, they seem to take ownership of your bikes.

At least the grandchildren can go back to where they came from.

i'm not going to call it a QUAD because i don't want to be associated with the few dumb folks who like to make big mud bogs and tear up trails on their four wheelers and big ol side by sides.  and i may just hit trails in the suv so i don't attract the scorn of any extra cautious folks who say my children have no place on a four wheeler at their age.  honestly, once i'm off my own land, with the potential for anything or anyone flying around the next corner, they may be right!

No matter who you have with you or what you choose to do while your there is of no concern of mine. As part of our great group, it would just be nice you have you there. I think we're a flexible bunch. I spent a day with my wife out the trail in my Xterra last spring. She's not much of an offroader though. :o

I do agree that riding with little ones on open trails may be a little sketchy.

My son and I were both interested in riding some of the trails and gravel roads in the Black Hills area and were wondering if this ride might work for us.  We both ride KLR650s, but I have a sidecar on mine.  I am 67 and have a bad knee so the sidecar permits me to continue riding.  But this means I am limited to gravel and two track roads.  Anything too technical or rocky would not work so I wondered if there would be options for more moderate riding.  But I would not want to slow anyone down or be a burden.

For the record my sidecar is not an enduro model, but rather a Velorex 562 which is a light sidecar suitable for light off road travel.  It works well for passengers, camping gear, carrying the dog,  or a cooler and ice for the refreshments!!.

Some comments or suggestions on this would be very helpful.

Welcome, you should go to the new member introduction page tells us a little about your self.
Now for question, oh hell yea!  There's usually some that do single track.  Some that do gravel and trail, and some that do 2 up.
We call them the "Love Boat" rides!  And there is always lots of help with info and from the group on what you may want to see or do.  Not sure where your from, but all who show up for the rally are always happy when they leave.

Ok, I will put this one on my  calendar.  And I hail from  Brainerd, in the center  of Minnesota.  But I will go back and do a proper introduction, as  you suggest.  Thanks for the info.

I've only jumped at pactola in the hills which isn't that high.  But every summer we spend a week at Table Rock Lake in southern Missouri.  There is a place we visit every year to cliff jump called party cove.  During dry years there is a spot  that's pretty high but I don't think its 90 feet.  That is a ways up!

I would consider coming up and showing the http://FarkleBar.com (http://farklebar.com) again if you would like.  Also I could talk to Cycle Hutt and Sturgis BMW, etc. to see if we could get them to make an appearance or do something special for the rally.  Let me know if you would like me to approach them about it.

Thanks,

Folks that can show stuff off are always welcomed, the only problem is that there is never any schedule. I think at some point there needs to be some kind of schedule if we want people to come out and show off there goods. Really enjoyed chatting with you last spring, Doug.

I think the best way to do it to do something in the morning or the late afternoon and those that want to hang around can do so. I'd like to see more of this happen. What kinds of activities do you have in mind Doug?

You are definitely more than welcome.  If you would  like to have an official scheduled time for something, by all means let us know and we'll post it in the (soon to be posted) official sign up thread.

Thanks for taking the reins on this this time around, Hank! I appreciate it.

I know I haven't been on the forum much lately - too much going on in life, y'know. ;)

Mrs. Yeti and I will be at the June rally for sure, bringing the usual chili.  :eat  Just waiting on the official sign up thread.

Unsure as to which bike I'll be bringing - been tossing around the idea of selling the WRR and just riding my GS from now on to keep me out of the scary stuff.  :P

Hey stranger!   Glad to hear you and Mrs. Yeti will make it again.
I am hoping to get some sort of official sign up thread in place this weekend.    It might not be as pretty as the ones you did, but I'll give it a go!

Just waiting for the sign up thread, me and the Mrs. are in. If there is anyone who is interested in coming along, I usually take her for a nice easy gravel road site seeing ride for at least a half day. She is not a speed demon by any means, so a good ride for beginners, probably boring for anyone else.

cough.
I don't know about NDave...I also loaned a thirsty Suzie rider gas as well. smile. (and you know who you are! shrug.)
It was right after psyco's brother launched his KLR off the trail and it took 10 Suzie riders to put it back on the trail again.
Yeah, the KLR...
It may be a pig with lipstick but it does have 'volume' for gas.

Looking forward to riding with you guys again.
I have two brothers scheduled/coming to ride as well!

We will be riding/leading rides M-W out of Sturgis prior to the DDSR.

I'm going to be trailering my GasGas out for the ride this year.
If anyone wants to ride out together from Minneapolis area, let me know.  I'd love to find a second to bring down gas costs.  Otherwise I'll come out with the hitch carrier.
If anyone's interested, let me know.

It's not that easy to navigate their system so here's a link straight to the establishment that issues them for anyone else who has yet to get theirs.

I live around the corner from f&f. It was a bit foggy early but it seems to be breaking. It has drizzled a bit and is still overcast, probably will continue. Should keep the dust and heat down I love riding in this weather so long as it doesn't really come down. For what it's worth my weather app of choice shows rain all day.
