I've been thinking about this for awhile and wanted to see if there was any interest. In short, having a weekly, monthly, or whenever meeting at a restaurant, coffee shop, or bar? I'm mainly thinking of the Black Hills guys, just because there are more of us located here. But this could work in other areas as well.
Just before Christmas, Bogus Jim and I met for lunch, just to catch up. Jim admitted to finally ending his 13 month long "no wrecks" streak earlier this fall. I had no idea it had been that long, I would thrown sticks at his spokes at the Fall Rally! :o Anyway, I'm not trying to make some sort of club meeting, I just enjoy seeing everyone and hearing what they're up to. Having a get-together once a week seems a little too often. Maybe once a month, on the first or second
Sat or Sun of the month. I assume that a weekend dates would be better than weekday evenings. I think the "Beamer" boys do something like this on Sundays at Pauly's. Any thoughts?

I may be talked into making a trip out there for a later February get together. I'm bound right now to vacation the end of the month in Vail and Aspen. I coupl find a weekend in Feb to ski Terry Peak and hang with the DSSRs. Anyone be up for some skiing?

A friend has a superT and I have to admit I like it better than my 990 on the road, off road I still prefer the KTM. The electronics are far better than I imagined.

However I am thinking about getting one of those dual-sport donkeys we discussed at breakfast. Might be hard to title it without a VIN. Maybe you could tattoo a VIN behind the ear.
I think a guy who tried to tattoo a donkey would earn his money.

Not to take the breakfast thread too far off topic, but there have sure been a lot of FS S10's on ADVrider. Lots of low mile bikes for a nice discount from new. I'd think a TEX (tiger explorer) would be worth a comparable look too.

I probably won't be near your house until after May 15th when the trails open. I was right by there earlier this spring and bought a 1971 CT90 w/570 miles up the hill from you.

I talked with Bogus Jim, Fletch and Robmcgrn today about June's breakfast. We decided to have our breakfast a week early, this Saturday instead of next Saturday. Basically the weather and muddy conditions this weekend probably won't allow much riding. So were going to meet at the Windmill at 9:00 am and talk about possible riding locations for Spring Rally. I'll bring some maps so maybe we can figure something out.
Also, we thought we would meet again for Breakfast the following week at one of the hills cafes. Maybe Nemo or Sugar Shack and go riding/scouting from there.
Hope lots of people can show up. The more that show Saturday, the more input we'll have. LD

I almost forgot again. :P This Saturday is the 2nd Sat of the month. I forgot last month. So the question here is, do we want to have breakfast this Saturday with all the bikers in town or wait another week. I'm in either week. ya, I'm an idiot.. and karma is apparently fairly instant. rolled it out the front door of the dealer, there is a pretty good hill so I put my left foot on the left peg, started rolling and swung my other leg over. rolled down the hill and onto the trailer. Had it half tied down by the time the sales guy got there:

drive home feeling all studly and superior to the typical bike loader, back the trailer up to the garage. take tiedowns off and let it sit on the side stand. release trailer tilt lock and hop on, start rolling back and a combination forgetting to put the sidestand up and it catching on the end of the trailer and my foot being on ice it tipped over and landed on the side of the trailer. after a uttering every cuss word I know (some of them twice) I righted it and rolled it into the garage. fortunately it only made contact with the trailer rail in a couple places. the side fariing piece is broken ($308) and the end cap on the exhaust is scratched.
feel free to laugh, everyone else has.

Sorry about the mishap. My stomach hurts just thinking about having that happen first day.
U motors in Fargo called telling me they have an 1190 on the floor, but I'm going to stick with the Tiger for at least another year or two.

actually the damage was pretty minor. replace the side fairing piece, install tank protectors from KTMtwins to cover the scratches on the tank, and send the exhaust tip (its removable) to the powder coater. should be pretty again for just under $400.

I just did that same shit not more then an hour ago.
Kickstand down, rolling off the trailer at a steady rate, Kickstand hit the trailer, bucked me off and the bike fell over Half on half off the trailer :-[

My initial impressions are fantastic! I have only ridden on gravel so the off road ability is still in question, but it feels as good or better than my 990. On the street it is far better than the 990 for both comfort and handling (and obviously power). The electronics are the most impressive part. Actually the electronics was one reason I thought twice about trading the 990 for it. I've never liked "driving aids" but I have to admit the ABS/MTC on this works so well you don't even notice it. 0-100-0 on gravel is uneventful and the bike stays amazingly stable.
It holds a gallon more fuel so that is a plus. I'm sending the forks to superplush for stiffer springs and a revalve. I seriously considered riding it the way it is as it is pretty good, but for the $ I think it will be worth it, specially off-road. according to the numbers it is heavier than the 990 but everything from pushing it around the garage, riding, and picking it up off the ground ::) it feels lighter? You can try it out for yourself at the spring or fall rally if you want.

Seen many reviews and all say the 1190 is better than the 990. Most say its a bit less off roadable but is miles ahead on the road. Everyone loves the suspension. And as you said, the electronic package is top notch.

It's SPRING !! ;D Time again for our monthly breakfast. There might even be a few of us riding bikes there this time. Fletch with his once crashed 1190, and Woody with his new fancy-schmancy Sherco! (Test rides will be scheduled in the back lot.) And, just maybe someone might be going riding afterwards.

Okay, there's been a few changes since I posted this weeks breakfast reminder. It's going to be nice on Saturday and a riding plan is forming, in-fact I think it's a done deal.
Breakfast will still be at the normal place and time (0900 hrs @ Windmill/Marlins). But, a group of riders are planning on meeting at the Hill City Convenience store (across from the cafe at the base of the hill leading towards Deerfield) at 1145 hours. Planning of leaving Hill City at noon.
Approximately a 4 hour afternoon ride. The main goal of this ride is to ICE Cave area. Wacked, Bea Wacked, and Peg Leg have never been there. Peg Leg also wants to try out his new suspension. I was thinking maybe heading up Reno Gultch area, then to Grand Vista, and working our way west to the Cave. I got some ideas on how to get back, but it just depends on what everyone one wants to do.
I will put a link on the "who's riding" thread so anyone interested in coming along will not be missed. It will refer back to this thread.

Yea, there was a bit of BMW carnage. I counted at least 5 tip overs, probably more. The poor lady, (sorry I forgot her name) the first couple of times were just oops, but the rest were all mind games. The one 1200 went down once that I saw. But, I had a great day. Weather was beautiful. I think they might even come back!

Well today's breakfast went pretty well. Furthest traveled was Grubbie and Heidi from WY. Dale seemed to have a good time and certainly loves talking about Black Hills history. I got a kick out of Mrs Wacked (Sue), she would stop him every time she didn't understand a mining term he may have used. Don't get me wrong, I didn't understand either. And best of all, no one scared him off.
Today wasn't suppose to be some sort of vendor demonstration/sales meeting, but I was surprised how many books and/or software were sold today. I think Dale was too. If fact he's putting a special copy of software together for Grubbie so he can have the WY section also. In the future, if anyone's interested in buying Dale's software, books, or book CDs let me know and I can either help or get you in contact with him. He sells his items cheaper directly, than on Amazon.
It's possible that we could get Dale to show up at say the summer rally for a evening if people were interested.

Hey, we're staying out there this weekend, so maybe we can make our first DDSR breakfast. I assume I can bring my girls along? Don't worry, they've heard worse :)
Is there anything exciting on the Rapid City or BH calender of events this weekend? We were going to snowmobile, but I doubt the trail conditions warrant the pull, so we're just going to come hang out. Heading out tomorrow night, coming back Monday.
Is there anything exciting on the Rapid City or BH calender of events this weekend? We were going to snowmobile, but I doubt the trail conditions warrant the pull, so we're just going to come hang out. Heading out tomorrow night, coming back Monday.

Black Hills Sports Show and Outdoor Expo is at the civic center this weekend. Not sure if that qualifies as exciting... there's usually a couple mc dealers there but nothing you can't see by stopping at the dealership. $20 for family pass I think.

Hey everyone, its breakfast time again. Don't just skim over this you need to read it all the way through. We're going to make a change this Saturday. And maybe a slight time adjustment.
Do to requests, and why not, we're going to move the breakfast to a new place. Formerly known as "Bully Blends" and now called "Essence of Coffee." It's located in the 900 block of Main Street on the north side. Or, for you visual types, straight across from the Federal Building.
Essence of Coffee is a traditional coffee shop / limited cafe (similar to Starbucks). The new owners said they have a group coming in before us, but they usually leave before 9 o'clock. So I figure depending on a little overlap, plan on getting there at 9 to 9:15.

brilliant! Speaking of BMW's I rode a new GS1200 last night. Hate to admit it but I really liked it. Probably the best (yea even better than the 1190) bike I've ever ridden on the pavement. I don't think it would hang with the 1190 off road though.

Called "Essence of Coffee" today. They are booked in the back room. Owners say the group usually leaves by 9 am, and that's what they said last month, but at 9 am there was still people in there. We can sit outside at the tables like last time if their not occupied. I say we try it again, I'll try to get there a little early to get the outside seating. LD

It looks like were going to have a pretty big crowd tomorrow morning, somewhere around 12 to 15 people. Plus a rummage sale. I called the Cambell Street Cafe and set us up for in the bar again. He'll push the tables together.

Good turn out today. Two new guys, Kyle and Brabbit both we've never met before. Harry Potter with his very patient wife. And, a kinda of new old guy (JerryOneEye), OMG Jerry's has been here two months in a row!! About 10 or so people.
Good news, Kyle lives nearby Carbonite and knows the trails. Good chance he'll be leading a group there this spring.

I will talk to them this week and find out more. So, not sure if we'll be in the bar area, reserved area, or in the main dining area. Bring your gps so you don't get lost.
Hopefully we'll have lots of people so we don't disappoint them. I'll let you know their plans. LD

On the same but different note, the first DDSR breakfast I went to, we met up (SUgar Shack) and after b-fast, went for a ride. I know it is short notice, but is anyone interested in riding after? Just a thought. I know change will throw some into convulsions, shock and a bunch of other medical terms I don't know, but.........

That's correct. KLR's only. If the general population knew how fast we can really ride they would be amazed as we only went 35 miles in 3 hrs. Cut our way threw six down trees and still had to turn around on the 8120 trail by savoy

Hey guess what time it is.....................Breakfast this Saturday. We can do the normal at Cambell street cafe, or meet at Sugar Shack and go for a ride. What does everyone think. I'm not sure I can ride Saturday morning, (I have to get the camper ready this weekend.)

Kids, wife and I rode up to the SS and had burgers last night. They have some wonky food set up for the rally. Not sure how it will be for breakfast on Saturday, but last night was not your normal SS experience.

I'm going to bring myself and my poor beat, battered and too tall 990 over since I've been lurking for like 2 years now and have a day off to match up with breakfast. I do have 3 tags to fill but I'm admittedly a shitty hunter. If'n I can't kill it with a 43 mph Bud Light Curve Can that would make proud a cubs fan the game will probably live. (JK not THAT bad at hunting but seriously relatively unsuccessful and this weather doesn't feel hunty if feels twist grippy.)

We should have a larger group than normal. Last year we had 25 people. Needless to say it was crowded at the normal place. So, Jim and I checked out Pannera Bread this past Saturday. It's a nice place and has lots of room for us. Manager said she would rope off a section in the back. I told her we'd pay for any damage! So I think its best to go there this weekend. Maybe we'll really like it and continue.
Also don't forget, if its anything like last year.......we all then headed down for the Sports Show.
One more thing; If Dan, Mark, & Pauly are here there will be drinking this weekend. They're a bad influence on us West River guys. Weak minded people like Fletch and I always succumb to their bad influence. (Edit; Fletch and I are no longer considering ourselves "weak minded" we are instead "easily led astray.")I'm sure we'll post something or call/pm one of us to find out our plans. Joel, are you going to be here? Gerry, where are you.....I know you need something at Menards! And yes for all those wondering, Bogus Jim will be there also. For what its worth. I planned on posting "lets do breakfast" this Saturday, but it turns out I can't again this week, or at least I don't think I can. I doing some fencing this weekend and will be busy with that. There's a couple of people here Grubbie & Sandhillrider that I know are very good at fencing, but I don't think they'll help. So if someone wants to pickup the ball and say they're going somewhere for breakfast, please do. I'm still hoping I can make part of it.

Okay my apologies, I screwed up! Last Saturday I thought it was actually the 2nd Sat of the month. Well I kinda of forgot, and when I did remember it was so late and no one had commented on it so I just let it go. Today, I called Bogus Jim and ask him if he wanted to go to breakfast. I don't believe I have ever been to breakfast or a campfire gathering that I did not learn something new.
Today was no exception.
There was a question about USN sea duty and shore duty; I incorrectly stated that it was 2years of sea duty (assigned to a ship, usually) and then 2 years of shore duty. =2/2 rotation cycle.
After some thought, the mid-90's rotation was 3 years ship, two year shore duty (as I recall).
There were some exceptions to that; if you were in a critical rating, you could easily find yourself in a 2/2 rotation, which is what I experienced as a Naval Aviator.
There was a separate question, perhaps confusion concerning ship deployments, and that the SecNav is trying to make deployments 6m at sea, then 6m in the home port, which will include some at sea time of 3d to 30d +/- to make sure the ship/crew are operating at a minimal state of readiness.
So to answer a question about how often the ship's crew has a complete turnover, ~1/3 of the crew changes every year.
The people who issue Official Orders (called Detailers in the Navy), try very hard to make those change of duty location from sea to shore duty, etc., attempt to make most of those personnel changes occur to coincide with children's school schedules so as be the least disruptive to the families and the children school schedules.

I tried to have breakfast at the Sugar Shack last Saturday. The informed me the don't serve breakfast during the rally? Whatever. We went over to the Nemo Guest Ranch restaurant. Walked right in and great service as usual. I will be camping with the family so have ho opinion where you meet.

Can't make it this week, have a charity event at work. and if you are doing any street riding I would avoid the southern hills as we will have 100+ bikes/cars travelling neck yoke, rockerville, iron mt., 244, sylvan lake, 385. and it will be a mess ;)

Joel and I had a good breakfast, had a good misty morning ride. We even honked as we passed Dave's haha. We were the only kermudgeons to show. We had a fantastic ride after it tho! Did about 160 miles

About a week ago, Ross, owner of Rosco's in Rapid City told me he has a special Beta 300 RR for Demo. He wants to get as many people to ride it/demo it has he can. I got to thinking about it and asked him about having DDSR show up after breakfast this week. I talked to Fletch (a known Beta hater!) about it and he said he's in.
I don't know if Ross is getting something special from Beta, I do know that Beta has a traveling demo van full of bikes, but they don't come to SD! ???
So maybe they're doing something else for less populated areas. Anyway, here's your chance to ride a Italian Princess. Lately we've been having about 6 to 8 show up for breakfast. If we can get a few more to show up and head over the Rosco's about 5 blocks away it might be kinda fun.
Let me know what ya think and if your planning on coming, that way I can give him an approximate number of people.

Well it's breakfast time again! We are going to change it up a little. After an outstanding turnout last month at Nemo, (Kyle and I) Bogus Jim and I decided we are going to Shooters on W. Main Street. Jim, Brad, and I have been there a couple of times recently and thought food was really good. And, they have space for larger groups. (More than two!)
So, this Saturday July 13th at 0900 hours at Shooters (2424 W. Main St.). I talked to Pete today. He and Stacy will be there and he'll be riding his new ride.......BMW GS650. Even Jim is coming and heading out to Bismarck after breakfast.

Sat. morning: Off to Sioux Falls to escort the SSN790 homage bike from Sioux Falls to Sturgis.
The bike departs SF at 9am on Sunday, arrive Pierre ~5pm.
It will arrive ~3pm at BHHD on Monday the 15th, depart for Sturgis at 4pm.
It will be inducted into the Hall of Fame museum at 5pm.
Come join the parade at BHHD and escort the bike to Sturgis.

He made it back about 7pm with a little over 1000 plus miles, and lots of detours. He said, "perfect day." But not so much on the re-routing! The next weekend was the fall rally! Almost perfect weather, at least Friday was! Now, it's freaking snowing. Good news, last least for me, I took off Tuesday with 70s degree temps and put on about 100 miles. Headed up north and worked my way back behind Sugar Shack. Great day, might be my last ride, for sure up north anyway.

So this Saturday is breakfast day again. Someone on the DDSR Ski Team said we should go skiing after breakfast. Not a bad idea! :) If we want to do breakfast a bit earlier, I'm alright with that. Just post something.
But for now, breakfast this Saturday morning at 0900 hours at Scooters on W. Main street. Post up something if you want to go earlier.

This Saturday is once again breakfast day. Also, this Saturday the DDSR Ski Team is planning on going skiing at Terry Peak Ski Area. So it was decided to have breakfast near Terry Peak. The plan is to meet at Cheyenne Crossing at 0830 hours for breakfast and go skiing afterwards. There should be 6 to 8 people attending, hopefully more people will be able to come up for breakfast and maybe ski also.

At the request of numerous people around here, we're going to start up the Breakfast Club again.
Gerry suggested we go to breakfast at our upcoming spring/summer rally location. They have a restaurant there and it would be a could time to check it out.
So based on the past tradition of having breakfast on the second Saturday of the month, this coming Saturday is the one, May 8th at 9 am.
Lets plan on having our Breakfast Club at Custer Crossing Campground on Hwy 385 near Roubaix Lake turnoff.

I forgot to post this. This Saturday, 6-12-21 we are heading to Custer Crossing Campground for breakfast at 0900 hours.
This is the same campground we're having the Spring Rally at next weekend. I think some are going riding afterwards.
