Dates are June 19, 20, & 21, 2013. You can arrive anytime after noon on Thursday, June 19, departing on Sunday, June 22. Weather should be dry and warm - avg high 78, avg low 52. BUT, this is South Dakota...if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute. ;-) Be aware that there is very spotty cell phone coverage at the campground (can be a good thing), but if you ride to the top of the hill (2 minutes away) most will get a good signal. Note: The cell signal in the campground was much improved last June, if memory serves.
Entry Fee: FREE!
Camping: Tents - $8 per person/night, RVs/Campers - $21 per night. You will pay the campground when you arrive, no pre-payment required. I will reserve all tent sites from entries on this sign-up thread. FnF have cabins available as well, but you will need to reserve those yourself by calling Gary or Michelle. Also please call and reserve RV sites on your own. Make sure you tell them you are with DDSR to get the special discount!

As of 2/19/14 all of the cabins, guest rooms, and 1 rental RV are available.
We will have enough room for plenty of tents. RV sites near the tent sites are at a premium and need to be reserved as far in advance as possible, although there will be plenty of RV spots available away from "ground zero".
The rally is open to any and all skill levels of riders with any motorcycle that is street legal in SD (doesn't take much: headlight, taillight & license plate is about it). All attempts will be made to keep the amount of pavement on our rides to a minimum, but it is a necessary evil in the Black Hills to get from one trail to another sometimes.
Rides can range from gravel/easy fire roads to rocks to single track to really gnarly rocks & single track, hillclimbs, etc. There will be something for everybody!
The Fish 'n Fry campground (FnF) has full showers (coin operated, bring a couple of quarters if you don't want to smell like a dirty biker!), real bathrooms (with sinks & mirrors!), a general store (with beer), a small restaurant (with beer on tap!) and a grill and shelter we can use if it rains. 24hr gas station/convenience store right across the street, and Deadwood is only 10 minutes away. There are picnic tables, but if you want a guaranteed seat by the fire you better bring your own.
Electricity is available to charge cell phones, iPods, etc., however it is outside, so use at your own risk!
Firewood from outside the campground is not permitted (sometimes an exception is made for us DDSR folks, though).
The FnF has bundles of wood for $X.
Limited food will be provided, but plan on fending for yourself during the day.

Cars, trucks & bike trailers will have room to park, but could be a ways away from your campsite.

I am not sure who is hosting this event. I was talking to Wade Rice and he said if he gets some information for the ride he will donate items and post information on his website. Jake and I are driving out with a trailer this year, trying to maximize our time. We will be out late Thursday night, leaving Sunday morning. We figure riding out four times establishes our bona fides. We will be pulling a small enclosed trailer, basically doing a Dave (s) maneuver. Looking forward to seeing you all!

I guess I'll address the corporate sponsor/involvement thing as there was much discussion about such things earlier this year.
We are such a loose affiliation of riders, that no one person is the organizer. We have no officers, or board, we are all members of a group of like minded (for the most part) people who get together to some riding. Because of this loose affiliation, no one has any expectation of what the event is or should be. It is, what it is. If we start to bring "sponsors" in then there is an expectation of what the event is or should be. We have never told another organization that they can't come and give stuff, or show their stuff off, as Doug from Farklebar does, but no one is really invited to do so for those reasons stated.

I will second that opinion. If Rice / Whoever wants to show up and show off their stuff, and/or feed us hotdogs, that's just fine, but we don't want any kind of official sponsorship. We're just some friends that get together, shoot the shit, ride motorsickles, and drink some suds around the campfire.

I'm awfully bummed that I won't be able to make it this year.

The first time was when a trip to Yellowstone, Teton, and Colorado turned for the worse. On the way back from Wyoming I called a buddy in the cities to look it up online to find the details, as I had seen a post about it on ADV. He pointed me in the right direction but I had to search "the Hills" for the Fish and Fry. After some time, I found it, set up camp, and waited for folks to come back from, what I think, was their Friday ride. I remember being coaxed into the really nasty parts of Pilot Knob on my KLR. I don't think anyone rode a bike smaller than 650cc's in DDSR at the time.
I've been coming back every year since.
All first timers are guaranteed a good time and every veteran does their best to make sure they do.

Sorry to hear you won't make it Os. I think you were the first guy I met on my first rally. I got talked into some gnarly stuff that first day on my Tiger.
Finally got it confirmed. I will be able to make it. Should show up late Thursday afternoon. Fingers crossed that the weather is favorable.

the single trackers had 3 or 2 smaller groups the 16 +or- main group was led by Lonesome Dave both days
the worst injury might be Pegleg's wrist Dr Phy knee but any number of scrapes we picked up
were average
Bonnie and Baby Wacked realy showed up and are welcome to ride anytime
I found 4 hail dents in the GMC somebody should have pic's of the rescue dash thanks
for the beer Jayden hope dad did't chew your ass all the way home being rescued by the Wacked family was part of the fun
I want to Thank everyone that helped do this event it was awesome. Great people absolutely fantastic rides, and great food you couldn't ask for more. Thanks again for the rescue of my son believe it or not he had a great time and I think he was disappointed that he didn't get to use his survival skills by spending the night in the hills lol. You did a fantastic event and I will be back to ride in it again. PS I didn't chew him out too much just had to laugh about it and he cant wait to come back too. Thanks Daryl
