Title: Trip Planning HELP needed!
Post by: ShermanTanker on January 16, 2015, 10:02:45 AM
First a quick background: Last year a few buddies a I did part of the Dakota Adventure loop (DAKAL) We all used pigs for bikes, DL1000, KTM990 etc. This year we are stepping it down..a lot. TW200's, CRF230f, CT90..etc. Also with the change in our rides we would like to do some more "off road" trails. BUT, here is the catch. I will be bringing my father, uncle, and some friends who have never rode off road a day in there life (Harley guys). The DAKAL was fun but the bikes we are using this year will be much much smaller and slower so I would like to have a more off-road route planned that is fun but yet easy enough for some first time riders. I would like to keep the highway to a minimum. The trip will be 3-4 days all while camping out at night over the labor day weekend. I don't have very much knowledge of the single track trails amongst the Hills and how to connect it fluidly to make a fun trip for everyone. I have rode the Piedmont fire trails and schroeder road so something similar to that would be great!

Fun, easy to moderate trails. (difficult sections welcome but not for the majority)
Trails that are able to be connected
Some single track, fire trails, minimum hwy
A water crossing would be great fun
Any GPS mapped trails would be awesome also.

Thanks!!! I hope to get some responses soon. I have quite a while to plan for this and I want to make it as fun as I can for them.

There are quite a few GPS tracks posted on this site, unfortunately they're scattered all over the place so, hard to find.

If you look at the past rally threads (2014, 2013, etc) I think you'll find tracks posted for many of the rides that we did and most of those routes would be suitable for off-road newbies on smaller bikes.

If you want to incorporate some easier single track, I'd say 8575 (Roubaix area), 6710 (Victoria Lake) and 6330 (along 385) would be good. But if there are lots of trees down then even these could be difficult.

This brings up something I thought of as I was purusing the site while "real" busy at work the other night. We need to start a "Tracks" area.
