Dates are September 17, 18, 19, and 20, 2014.  You can arrive anytime after noon on Thursday, September 17, departing on Sunday, September 20. Weather should be warm during the day and chilly at night (down into the 20s)  BUT, this is South Dakota...if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute.  ;-)

There might even be snow!

Entry Fee: FREE!

Standard Rates (we may get 10% off this, depending on turn out):
Cabins: $89
Full-Service RV: $42
Electric/Water Only RV: $36
Tent Sites: $20

Note:  Cabins are nearly gone or gone as of 8/3/15

Make sure you tell them you are with DDSR so we get 10% off this price!

The rally is open to any and all skill levels of riders with any motorcycle that is street legal in SD (doesn't take much: headlight, taillight & license plate is about it).  All attempts will be made to keep the amount of pavement on our rides to a minimum, but it is a necessary evil in the Black Hills to get from one trail to another sometimes.

Rides can range from gravel/easy fire roads to rocks to single track to really gnarly rocks & single track, hillclimbs, etc.  There will be something for everybody!

Anyone attending this event, does so at their own risk. Lonesome Dave, Hank, any other DDSR member, Mountain Meadow campground or ANYONE BESIDES YOU will not be held responsible for injury to yourself, your bike or gear! Now, let's get out and RIDE THE HILLS!!  P.S. No helicopters allowed!  :-)

Had to cancel my reservation  >:(. Hope to ride with everyone on Saturday. I am in town, but buried with work, and working out of town to much lately. Ill dust the cobwebs off the bike and be ready for Saturday. If someone could chime in on a start time that would be great. I tried to catch up with everyone last year and got there too late.

We will be rolling in Friday evening.  It will be a docile weekend of puttering around on the four wheeler but it is always great to get out there and always great to see everyone.  can't wait!

I hope to come up and visit Thursday night. Then might ride Saturday, depending on when  you head out. Might even borrow a bed Saturday night and ride Sunday. Gerry tells me the GS is too big, but I don t remember ever holding up the group......  Guess I can ride with Loingrader and his son around camp.

The 990 has me on the fence...I will be working on it in the morning tomorrow. Will you guys have cell service? Would it be possible to do a day trip if I get the 990 rolling well? I'm not that far away but worry about getting in touch. I suppose I could just wait till evening and call Mountain Meadows and say "Grab me one of those motor cycle dudes to talk to" and get the next day's start time that way. What do you think? If anyone thats gonna be there wouldn't mind PM'ing me a cell number that would be cool too.
Tentative but hopeful ---- BCB1080/Brian Burgfechtel

Guys, unless there's a group planning the all day ride for the Custer Loop, which it doesn't sound like it, the breakfast club starts at 8:00 am.  That's when the restaurant opens.  Actually by 730 most are standing around stealing coffee from one place or another.  By 0900 that's pretty much over, unless GB is super talkative then it can last longer!  If you arrive, by 9 you won't have any trouble finding anyone.  Usually by 10 you won't have any trouble either.  By 10:30 you might be out of luck.  The fast rider guys tend to leave a little earlier, well because they're fast!

The texting thing works pretty well, if they know someone is looking for them.  But remember, Mnt Meadows is the only gas for quite a few miles, they always come back.

Brian, I'll pm you.

Expect a two-stroke alarm clock @ 6a Dave

Actually I came to post that I probably wont make it now due to late shipping on a part that I needed.  I was planning on taking a look at the Sherco while I was there so we'll have to setup another time for that.

90% chance of rain- Hey I'll get wet with ya. A brief introduction: I am 60 and I just got into motorcycles about 5 years ago. I didn't grow up with motorcycles so I don't know any more about their maintance than I do this computer or cell phone stuff. Oh I did read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle back in the seventies. Looks like a Friday morning arrival for me. See you all there.

Had a great time trail riding!  The weather was perfect.

Thanks to those who lead rides.  Had fun on Hank's single track adventure until dead-fall brought that ride to an end.....  honestly though, that was enough of a workout for this old set of bones.

Dave put together a fun and scenic ride around Rochford and Westward.

It was great meeting some new faces.  Hope to see you there next year.

In the above post, I commented on how great the trail riding was ...... It was kinda a magical Fall weekend.  Nobody got hurt.  A couple of bikes that need some fixing.  For me, the ride home was a different story.

I left Deerfield around 5:30 so I could get home before dark.  Well about 4 miles from home, I T-bone Bambi.  It was a little one that has probably been out of it's spots for 2-3 weeks.  Did not see it until it "just appeared".  No skid marks on the road.  Just driving along at 55-60 and WHAM.

Next thing I know, I'm skidding down the road with the bike being a human brake pad.  I "thunk" the right front side of my head as the whole bike goes down.  I open and shut my eyes periodically only to see the tar rolling past just a few inches from my googles.  (Went back the next day, stepped it off, and estimated that I had slid 40-45 yards.)  I got out from under the bike and kneeled over it, trying to get my bearings straight.  I wasn't knocked out, but my head and vision were not the best.

A car came up from the other direction and asked if I needed help.  I stood up and took inventory of my body.  Most things were in place but I thought I'd better lay down before I crumpled.  I asked the dude to get the bike off the road into a nearby drive-way.  Another guy stopped and helped.  They also drag the deer off the road.  I ask one of them to get the phone out of the tank bag and I call the wife.  Then I lay there.

Laying there for the rescue ride home, I take more detailed inventory.  Some areas of road rash.   The whole right side of my back and ribs are killing me.  I think the heads fine.  My vision is clearing up.

So, I got by pretty lucky.  Lite damage to the bike, minimal damage to me.  The right side of my gut and back muscles are killing me and I got some road rash out of the deal.  I'll be out of work for a few days recovering but time should heal each of these.  I was wearing my plated jersey and good riding pants - wear your gear all the time!

Wow Brad!   Glad you came out of the deal "OK" (sounds like barely OK).    Deer suck.   Did you go to the clinic and get checked out?

OUCH Brad! That sucks! I was just thinking this morning that the deer have been more active along the roads the last few days. Changing weather? Glad your okay.
Title: Re: Sign up thread!
Post by: Lonesome Dave on September 22, 2015, 07:30:12 PM
I read somewhere that deer are the most active and have the most car/bike deer accidents in October.

Brad didn't mention that he also appears to have a burn on his hand that looks the width of the exhaust pipe.

One more thing, I met some guys from Bismarck on 1190s on the way home tonight.  I told them about Brad's wreck.  One of them said the following, and really made me think; I don't ride at night anymore. Who has not hit a deer with a car, especially living in the Black Hills.  Do you think you're not going to hit a deer with a bike?

Glad your okay or mostly okay.

Glad you are OK Brad. Deer are my biggest fear while riding. I too had a similar incident. i left the campground on friday at about 4:45 or so, about 3/4 mile down the road from the campground, bambi, decided to make a run for it across the road, luckily a saw her and was already braking hard, but still got within 3 feet of game of plastic pickup. I took it easy the rest of the way back to Rapid.

Glad to hear your ok Brad that's one of my worries even on the trails sometimes have one of them critters run out in front of you.
