Title: coming back to the hills for two weeks
Post by: mike1952 on March 21, 2009, 01:07:13 PM
We used to live in Spearfish and are coming back to visit friends in Strugis who do not ride.  We did not ride when we lived in the hills so are looiking for ideas.  I know lots of forest roads because we did some two tracking, but what about trails or less known roads?  We will be there in the last half of June and maybe again in August.

your best bet is to stop in the local Forest Service office and request a Travel Management map.  It will only have FS numbered roads on it.  the complete project with ATV and single track trails is more than likely a year out yet.  you can look at the map I'm talking about here:

there are a ton of great trails out in the hills.  drop us a line when the time gets nearer.  you will probably get several guys willing to show you around.  it is easier to show people where the fun trails are versus trying trying to explain how to get there.

plus, what type of bike are you riding, and what types of trails are you wanting to run.  we could get you on trails that can be very challenging (basketball sized rock scattered as far as the eye can see, creek crossings, steep hill climbs) or very tame, depending on what you are looking for.
