It is that time of the year again and we need to get an idea on who is going to make the trip so we can plan a few more details. This is a no charge event that is open to any and all that want to ride with us. We have riders of all skill levels and we ride a pretty wide variety of terrain that includes some rocks, some water crossings, few small hills, and or you can cruise the two track trails/paved roads till your ass is numb. Last years ralleys where a blast and knowing the guys that are planning to come again this year I see no reason why this one will be any different. Camp fire stories are almost as good as the riding minus the rum and a few more backwoods cigars.
As of right now we are plannig on Fish N Fry again this year because it works and with any luck we won't have any rain but if it does we have a place to hang. Trails we ride will depend on weather and we have had several request to explore the sothern hills which would be awesome but I for one would like to explore more of the deadwood area as well.
Last year we had a cookout one night so I would be open to doing it again if some are interested. I am no chef but we can cook some food on a fire so if your interested just post it with your signup info. In regards to the food it is based on a donations rather than a set cost. We had almost 50 riders last year so lets see what we get :o

I am in. Since I and most likely Brian will be cooking I think I will have some food. Think I might cook up some fajitas this year :evil

I'm in. Hoping the northern hills dry out a bit. Stupid rain and snow. Doesn't mother nature know that we are supposed to be in a drought? maybe not any more....
-
Your not worried there won't be any fires are ya?
I posted in KLRworld and KLR650.net.
-
I'll make an appearance on my GSA, may or may not camp, but am looking forward to some southern hills rides

josh, you will have a blast either way on that gsa, but if it has some rock/skid plate protection for your cylinder cases, it will be even more fun. not sure about your riding style but some of the trails that some of us like to frequent can be a bit rocky. with a heavier bike, more weight coming down on those rocks... you get the picture. alan has broken the factory metal skidplate on his katoom 950. we punched a hole in the engine case of my brother's ttr225 (rock got around the skidplate), and i've got lots of big gouges on my klr's skidplate. just my $0.02.
-
Seriously??!!! You're gonna let the poor guy take a GSA down Camp 5??!! :o Bad idea, me thinks.....
-
I may just ride my cousins honda 250 if we are gettin too serious!
-
Sounds like fun! Count me in.

it's been done before, but not my me!
that gs will be a blast on a lot of trails, but that 250 will be a blast on a lot of trails too. last year, the little ttr225 my brother was riding made most of us look like posers trying to get our big bikes thru the trails. it looked way too easy on that little thing.

There's a vstrom rally the 25th through the 29th of june and I was going to post on www.stromtroopers.com about this one. There aren't a ton of offroad vstrom riders, but there are a few who want to see some dirt, mud and rocks and might be interested in coming out a week early to ride with you guys.
I'll try to make a ride myself (only met two of you guys so far...) but I don't think my continental twin-duros will be on my bike by that point and I'm not sure I'd get to hardcore with stock tires (tried that once and now I have flush mount turn signals...they look better at least). I'll go for some dirt and trails though. Don't think I'll camp, I'll have just gotten off doing a 8-10 day hike doing the centennial trail, thats enough camping for me.

-
Those of you going please let me know for sure so I can let the Fish N Fry people know who will be there.
Thanks
Brian

i'm really hoping to make it i'm about 90% sure at this point

A little Satriani to get ya in the mood:
-
Great video Yeti. Anyone know if Scuba is comming down again?
-
The bbq pig is in the crock pot now for this week:)
How many we have comming so far because right now I think I count 7-8 and 1 maybe in Brett.
Looking forward to seeing all of you again.
-
Paul and I still plan to come through Sat night if its at all possible, but I imagine the pig will be gone by then.
-
I was thinkin we would eat Sat night like last time before everyone heads out on Sun so if you have an idea when you might show up, you should be in the good. I think I made enough to last.
I will either show up thur night fri morning but I looking forward to enjoying a cocktail and cigar with ya.
-
I was planning on coming up Thursday afternoon, but it looks like no one else is gonna be there. :'(
Is anyone coming on Thursday? If not, I'll wait 'til Friday morning to come up. If I do show up first, what do I need to do to secure our site(s)?? If I need to pay up front, that's cool....just would like to know ahead of time.

Kinda weak, eh? Last year you guys had around 40, right? That's alright, a group bigger than 7-8 we'd just have to split up rides anyway! Looking forward to this weekend!! ;D

Whenever we roll out of our tents, shake of the hangover, eat breakfast, and get geared up....usually get on the road around 8:30-9am.

Where the hell is everybody??!! Don't you guys realize this is only 2 days away??!! :o Haven't seen Ryan on here in months....does anyone know if he's still coming?
-
ryan's truckin. he's planning on coming last i heard (which was about a week ago).
-
I talked to Ryan and he thought he was going to take off Friday morning.
I was planning on leaving early Thursday morning but I'm waiting for fork seals that were supposed to be here last week! :-[ I just called and they "THINK" they should ship today.... :evil :evil :evil :evil ...Just my luck!
On a side note does some one have an extra sleeping pad I can borrow? I had it on my list for the past three months but totally forgot about it. Now there's no way I could order one in time. I thought about buying a cheap wal-mart one again but I'd rather put the money towards a good one... Thanks!
-
I've got a cheap Wal-Mart one you can use.
-
Ive got a yoga mat you could use and I do have a nice luxury thermarest that my wife will not be using and I am sure you could use it as long as you don't do anything weird with it :o Ive seen it a hundred times.

I should be there thur night or first thing fri morning.
-
You guys have fun and be safe. I'm looking forward to seeing you Sat night. Especially you Dustin since I haven't seen you since 3pm today. ;D

If that happens I will be camping in the hills Thursday night!!!! ;D ;D We'll see how it goes, I'm going to have my forks taken apart ready for new seals and oil tomorrow night. So it should be pretty quick and easy fingers crossed. I would think with any luck I should be out there around 7:00ish. Hopefully your still up to camping thurs night!
Looks Like the weather should be great!! I'm pumped to go ride some rocks!! ;D
-
My seals shipped!! ;D Now I just have to wait and hope they show up early tomorrow.

Alan PM me your phone number and I'll call you when I'm leaving.
Oh and also I just got off the phone with Ryan. He's leaving early tomorrow morning. He thinks a couple of his buds will be joining him too!!

Correct me if I am wrong here. You guys are going to camp, some will camp from the 18th thru the 22nd. And the base will be at the 'fish n fry' which is located only 5 miles south of Deadwood on Hwy. 385, which crosses the Black Hills from north to south. And from there other rides are planned. Some on like GS and DL might not necessarily be best for some of the rockier stuff.
Question.1) will all begin and end at the 'fish n fry' camp or are there others?
2) what time is set as 'check in'?
3) what is the ksu time?
-
Yeti if you don't mind I'll use you sleeping mat...
Thanks
Dustin

You are correct, with one exception: the last day is Sunday, 6/21. AFAIK, no one is camping Sunday night.
Personally, I plan on staying away from the rockier stuff this time around....I'm planning on selling/trading my bike soon and don't want to cause any more damage than I already have. :-\ So, if you need a partner for some "easier" riding, you can count on me.
Question.1) will all begin and end at the 'fish n fry' camp or are there others?
2) what time is set as 'check in'?
3) what is the ksu time?
1) Yes, Fish n Fry is our home base for this rally. No there are no other "home bases", but you're welcome to camp anywhere you'd like.
2) We play it pretty loose...looks like the first group ride won't be until late Friday morning. Will probably start earlier Saturday and Sunday mornings.
3) What the hell is a "ksu"? ???
-
I'm planning on selling/trading my bike soon and don't want to cause any more damage than I already have.
so what you got cookin yeti?
3) What the hell is a "ksu"? ???
kansas state university in manhattan, ks. home of the wildcats and aggieville (lots of great bars). went there my freshman year. they are in central time, so take the time in the hills and add 1 hour to it. i.e. ksu time.
that may not be what is being discussed here though...
-
Yeti if you don't mind I'll use you sleeping mat...
Thanks
Dustin
Went looking for the pad...couldn't find it...called the wife....she gave it to her brother a couple months ago, sorry. :-[
-
so what you got cookin yeti?
Trying to get my hands on a 950SE :evil ...might buy excess's, might buy a brand new one...the future is not clear yet. ;D

Nice explanation, but somehow I don't think that was what he was reffering to. :D
Speakin' of cookin'...how's the bun comin'? Out of the oven yet??
-
Great video Yeti. Anyone know if Scuba is comming down again?
Hey Guys,
I won't be making it down this time. I've got several things I need to get taken care of before I leave on a ~4,000 mile trip to the East Coast next week. I'll be making a triangle from ND to AR to NC and back to ND. I'll start it off with a IBA SS1000 attempt from Bismarck, ND -> Siloam Springs, AR on my KLR. I'm sure after that I won't regret the Sargent seat I just put on the KLR. A couple of the highlights of the trip will be riding Deals Gap and making it to the Atlantic Coast. Riding a loaded KLR at Deal's Gap probably won't be as much fun as Jason or Bret's Blackbirds but it should still be lots of fun.
Have fun bouncing off the rocks guys and don't break anything too expensive!!
-
3) What the hell is a "ksu"? Huh?
Kick Stands Up

Speakin' of cookin'...how's the bun comin'? Out of the oven yet??
still cookin, thankfully. her due date is july 18, but last week we thought it was coming any day. lots of weird stuff going on.
it's one of those situations where if i went to the rally, the baby would be born after a 30 minute labor on saturday morning. since i'm not going, it will probaby be august 1. i've got to play it safe, and keep the wifey company just in case.
and on another note...
kick stands up. i like it. ;D
-
Congrats on the little one, hope all goes well. We missed ya but we found a new trail you might need to ride ;D
-
Paul and Hank checking in. We're in Grand Jct. Colorado.. 1060 miles today. The day did NOT start off well but we got it sorted and made it. See you guys Sat!
Hope you guys are alright, didn't see you Sat night and everyone was wondering where you were. Keep us updated!!
-
Yeah we made it home. I did send text msgs saying we weren't coming but I'm sure no one had reception. We'll post a brief report later. Was fun..3K miles in 4.5 days.
