Dakota Dual Sport Riders

The 2022 Dakota Dual Sport Riders June rally will once again be held in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota!  Camping will be at the Custer Crossing Campground, south of Deadwood on 385:

Dates are June 16-19, 2022.  You can arrive anytime after noon on Thursday, June 16, departing on Sunday, June 19. Weather should be dry and warm - avg highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s,  BUT, this is South Dakota...if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute.  ;-)

Entry Fee: FREE!
Camping: Tents - $10 per person/night, RVs/Campers - $35 per night.
Cabins – availability unknown - CALL - $55/night.

The rally is open to any and all skill levels of riders with any motorcycle that is street legal in SD (doesn't take much: headlight, taillight & license plate is about it).  All attempts will be made to keep the amount of pavement on our rides to a minimum, but it is a necessary evil in the Black Hills to get from one trail to another sometimes.

Rides can range from gravel/easy fire roads to rocks to single track to really gnarly rocks & single track, hillclimbs, etc.  There will be something for everybody!

Gas station/convenience store on site. There are picnic tables, but if you want a guaranteed seat by the fire you better bring your own.
Firewood on-site is probably available??
Group meals - TBD

FYI-
The campground just called me and they are under new ownership. Not honoring the prices agreed upon by old owners when making reservations.  Charging $70/ night for the cabins now. Not sure what RV prices are, but probably going to be charged more for those as well.

I think it's bullshit to change the cost after the reservation is already made, so I cancelled my cabin.   I'll ride during the day and drive home afterwards.

My life has been upended and my head I in another place at the moment, so I have not had a chance to actually talk with them. That certainly sucks. She did say that things will be a little different but made no indication on what the differences are.
I have no energy or focus to deal with this atbthis point but probably will want to look elsewhere for next spring.

I just got off the phone with Marc Bessette the absentee owner of Custer Crossing Family Campground, he lives in Massachusetts. He was happy to have us in 2022 and assures me we are more than welcome back in 2023.

His two family members Roger and Colleen are running the place now. Marc assures me that things will go smoother next year. Also this fall they are pouring lots of resources into the facility and it should be even better for 2023.

All of us from Nebraska look forward to seeing you next year again.
