The time is upon us... any interest in rides or GTs in the coming weeks?

GT = get together, ride, bbq, whatever. It's been nice out, I have an open schedule and flexability until I get some clients.

How about Wed or Thurs this week.  Meet up some place like Boondocks or Sugar Shack.  I found my tow rope, and camera, so I'm ready.  You guys can get silly and I'll watch.

I got a few more break in miles yesterday, including finding out how the KLR handles in the rain (and mud) and how much protection the fairing gives from hail (not much).  Who knows what today will bring.  (more pain pills probably)

I got my copies of the new Forest Service maps, now as soon as I figure out how to tow a trailer behind the KLR, I can bring them along.  (got to wonder how many tax dollars that cost)

Let me know if anybody is up for a ride this week.

I have the taller windscreen and I still found that hail protection is still minimal. I have taken some significant road trips with it, my best advice is just make sure you bring (at the very least) one extra qt oil when going far.  Im available when the sun comes out again in a few days.  I was thinking about going to Newcastle WY to get a cup of coffee then maybe wind cave or just lunch in Hill City or something.  Sugar Shack works well for me to.

I'm looking forward to the first ride on the KLR when it doesn't rain.  (or hail)  I'm up for a Newcastle loop, or whatever.  Let me know.

It sounds good, I still have a pretty loose schedule for the time being, I'm keeping a close eye on the weather, looks sort of iffy for the next week or so but I'll probably get some riding anyway. I survived 15 years of riding in the Seattle area, always wet and cold, besides we have been itching to get out on the bike more.  Looking towards mon or tue for best results.

Just got back from breakfast in Hill City.  1/4 to 1/2 mi. visibility, moderate snow.  Just another day in paradise.

Soon, this windy chill will lift, at least enough to go have some fun.  Maybe this coming weekend will hold some usable weather for us.

I rode to town to ship a package and I wasn't sure it would still be clinging to the back of the bike when I got there with all the wind.  I know it's going to be a nice long summer and I'm really looking forward to seeing it begin.

yup, I just wanted to make sure there was time for the title and keys to get there.  Still checking for some usable weather this week.

Alan, you around? wanna chime in here? whats your take? you still on that Yamaha 250?? think you can keep up with the big boys now? haha  I'll bet that 250 owns the trails.

It's going to feel strange to not be 400 bike lengths behind everyone when the pavement begins and I wring every last cc out of the ol KLR just to keep everyone in sight.  Another KLR in the mix so I dont feel all solo at the back of the pack.

Got a few more break in miles today.  Rode up to Deerfield.  I won't call it a mistake, but it sure was an adventure.  Mud over ice, snow over ice, ice over ice.  KLR did it's thing & I didn't tip over.  Sure would be nice to try riding in good conditions for a change.

This week looks a little better.  Let's ride. :)

Hey Tony! I'm around here every day!  I'm just hoping that my little WRR doesn't make me look like even more of a chicken..."damn Yeti, can't even ride that teeny-weeny girly bike!"   ;D ;D

I actually got out for a couple hours last Friday. Weather was perfect.  I was a bit nervous at first...I always seem to be on the first ride of the season, but that faded quickly and I was haulin ass through some familiar trails up around Neck Yoke Rd.  I saw no ice or snow, and very little mud...surprising.  Just another reason I like the southern hills better, it's usually drier!  ;D

Good to hear from you Yeti, glad you got it out for a while.  Its damn near time we do a ride.

Today was nice but had business to tend to, next week looks so much better for weather also.

Yeti I have had mine out at least a half a dozen times this year which is a fantastic now that I am not heading to WY every week.

Hey gents, it looks like we finally have a fairly decent week upon us.  I have time every day but Monday as most of my obligations this week are very movable.

Anyone up for a run, wife and I were thinking about going to Newcastle for lunch and coffee. Time to enjoy the hills before the tourists and pseudo-bikers take it all over for the summer.

Anyone in for wed or thurs, maybe a half day or day ride? dirt or not, either way.

Tony

Hey Tony!

I've got to work all week, but will probably be up for a ride this weekend!  Looks nice so far, but we'll have to see if the weather stays good through Sunday.

I will be pretty happy when I have a high enough client load to be busy most-all of the week, until then I find myself forced to fill that black empty void with activities like motorcycling and grilling...life is tough as hell sometimes.   ;D

I think we're going to WY today for coffee/lunch.  Weekend sounds good, whatcha have in mind?

Sat or Sun afternoon - maybe we could do one or two of the rides I put up on the sign-up thread!

Saturday's weather looks like it just may be perfect for riding!

You still up for it Tony?  Anyone else wanna tag along?  I'm thinking of leaving around 1pm, getting back around 4 or 5pm.  I've got my favorite route picked out.   :evil ;D  Could meet after lunch in front of Black Hills Coffee on hwy 16.

soooo 1pm at stonewalls?
Is the route friendly for passenger or is it the rough stuff?
I'll be checking back in the morning. It sounds like fun.

Most would probably be passenger friendly, but with all the rain tonight there will probably be MUD!!  You know how I feel about mud.   :P

There will be plenty of mud where you might see dirt, any water crossings will be very swollen.  I have not seen the creek this high in quite a number of years, even my well is several feet higher than I have ever seen it.  It appears to be a pretty nice day so far, just to verify... where/when?

Sorry for the late notice, but I'm gonna bail today.  I got a stomach thing going on, maybe nerves from thinking about all that mud.  ;D

I'm gonna try to get out tomorrow at the same time if my stomach is better by then.

That might explain why nobody was there, but we didnt get a verification so its all good, we rode to wall and had planned on doing the badlands loop but I learned its all torn up and full of tourists, more so than I had hoped. we just rode back in the rain. All good!

I'll check back tonight or tomorrow.

I checked in/out to early, we did lunch at the Gaslight today and went through Keystone and Hill City, pretty good ride but started to cool off a bit during the afternoon.  Did you guys end up going on a ride today?

I stopped by Stonewalls at 1pm on Sunday but nobody was there, so I headed out solo.  Took my favorite close to home loop. Didn't see a lot of mud, but what I did see I purposely pointed my front tire at.  :evil  Trying to get better at negotiating the slick stuff...think I'm getting a bit better at it, didn't fall over at least.  ;D  There are a few water crossings that are usually only a few inches deep, some were around 2 feet deep and moving fast. Was a lot of fun. I'll be out doing it again next weekend (3 day weekend, woo-hoo!) if anyone is up for it.

I can tell I haven't been riding much yet this year...after only about 4hrs of riding yesterday I'm really sore today!

I'll ride sat/mon maybe!

Gonna be real warm tomorrow (Friday, around 90) and I think I can get all my work done and take the afternoon off!   ;D  Anyone wanna try this again?  1pm at Stonewalls...I'll be there, and I'll even wait until 1:15.   ;D

The weekend is iffy...Sat will be cool, but may or may not rain...Sun will be cool as well, but less chance of rain...Monday looks perfect for riding - around 65, no rain.  I'm up for a ride anytime this weekend.
