former Spearfish resident just joined

I used to live in Spearfish; my wife and I both love the hills and still have dear friends there even tho we have been gone for 20 years this last June.  We do come back to visit and good chance we will retire there.   This next summer we are coming out with my 16 year old son and want to do some dual sport riding and dirt trails.  Are there trails that you can ride with an un plated bike?  In Michigan we have a good trails system for dirt only bikes that all is needed is a state ORV sticker; also many counties in the northern part of the state allow unplated bikes to run on county roads.  I was not into dirt riding when Ilived in the hils so need some help.

Yeah near Sundance there are areas where unplated bikes are okay, and if you saw this thread you can find more info on the sticker that will soon be needed for South Dakota.
Also near Upton WY there is a really cool enduro course you may want to check out.
