Starting sometime in June Id like to take a couple weeks and make a trek someplace nice. I was thinking it may be time to try alaska. Anyone else interested. I could take more time but most people get two weeks.

Thoughts Ideas?
Who is interested?

A two or three week Alaska bike trip is on my list of things to do before I die, but there is no way I can do it next summer (or the next five for that matter).  Two kids and too much work!  I wish I would have done it when I was in my early 20's before I had any obligations..

Sounds like a blast!

i'll be there too sometime.  maybe not this summer, but sometime.

my uncle rode a bike up to the artic circle twice in the early 80's.  back then there was 1000 miles of gravel and he had to build a custom fuel tank in order to be able to make it between fuel stations.  the second time he went up, when he got north of the artic circle he was wearing every article of clothing he had brought it was so cold.  he went to a little eskimo village and they were swimming in the water, like it was 90 degrees outside.

he said that when he saw a haul truck coming that he would drive his bike as far off into the ditch as he could go cause they would throw up rocks as big as your fist.

he's got a lot of cool stories and tons of pictures from his alaska trips.  i'll be there someday.

Alaska is definitely on my "bucket list" as well, but probably not next year.  I've never really taken a big DS trip, and I think my first big trip should be something a bit closer to home. I would just LOVE to take a week in the spring and do Moab!

Your Alaska trip isn't going to conflict with the DDSR rally, is it??

It'd be great if you could upload some of those pics!! Awesome story, I'm sure.

i may try to scan some of those pics in sometime.  he lives in KCMO, so i don't have the easiest access to the pics  but i see him quite a bit and should upload a few.

I'm in!  I've already filed divorce papers and everything will be final May 30th.  I told my wife that I love her, but would much rather travel as a nomad chasing bears in Alaska with Brian than take our trip to Orlando that she has planned.  She didn't understand so I did what needed to be done.  A good goat will do that you know!  Plus, I already talked with Todd Palin, Sarah's husband and he will be willing to give us a guided tour at no charge if interested.  I've got my bags packed and will be ready to go June 1st.  I will put a post up telling everyone that the June DDS Rally will be postponed until further notice!

P.S.-I've decided to sell all of my things to make this trip happen.  Here's a list!

5 Year old Yellow lab-good hunter
Over-Under Shotgun-beautiful
Training collar-Kennel-dog gear
Schwinn Moab 3 Mountain bike
Leather couch
Samsung 52 inch Plasma 1080p
Lamps, tables, chairs
2 Volvo Wagons-Sweet cars
The shirt off my back
Tools

Sorry, the wife will most likely get the house

Please let me know if interested.  I will be keeping my JB Weld, air pump, and my little jacket in hopes of fitting into it again.

;) ;) ;) ;D

LOL, now I am wondering how much of that is true and how much is just wandering in your head as possibilities.

I lost my sweet tele-commute gig so not sure about the feasibility of AK in the near-near future.

What is your timeframe & budget for the trip?  It's been nice that fuel is down from last year so that makes it a bit easier.

Dustin

I'll go!! But I might not have a wife and kids to come home to. Plus my boss is a real slave driver so I might be fired also!! j/k  ;D

Its getting close to that time again with warmer weather just around the corner ;D

Just ordered up a set of foot pegs on ebay for $18.00 shipped and think it is about time to get the pig tuned in. I have bar heaters, subframe bolt kit, and need to tune the carb so it is not running so hot. I think the tractor muffler is throwing it off a bit.
