Hello,  a friend of mine (who is a Harley guy) lost his mind 2 years ago and bought an R1100GS 1996 version with only 23,000 miles off Ebay.  We worked together and he rode it maybe 6 miles but he let me ride it and I put say 200 miles on it. I really liked the power and smoothness of the bike.

Now two years later he offered it to me for $2500.

I know it is older but the previous owner (before my friend) seemed to take pretty good care of it.

I am just on the edge of taking him up on it.

If I do, I plan on doing a complete maintenance on it and installing a few safety items, like new SS brake lines pads, tires, etc...

What is everyone's opinion on this bike?
Time heals all wounds. But it usually leaves a pretty big scar.

Obviously there are some known issues with them but most older bikes are like that.  Overall they are solid machines.  $2500 for 23000 and you know previous history (and have put 200 miles of test ride on) sounds like a good deal to me.

Yup, sound like a good buy to me as well. Jump on it.
