When I buy a tool or a piece of gear, I'm happy if it just performs as advertised, but every once in a while I buy something that exceeds my expectations. Here's a few items that I really like...

ProTaper tie downs
http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Taper-Tiedowns-Black/dp/B009XIP942/

* Spring-loaded carabineer, so they won't come unhooked on bumpy roads
* Swivel on the carabineer, so the straps don't get twisted / tangled when you're tying down
* Velcro loop sewn onto the strap, for securing the loose end of the strap so it doesn't flap in the wind
* Plastic-coated hook as well as a loop sewn in the strap, if you don't want to use hooks. Protects the bike from scratches

Motion Pro compact tool kit
http://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08-0161-Multi-Purpose-Metric/dp/B000GTV1V2

This is very compact and great for dirt bikes or those who like to pack light. You can add your own 1/4" and 3/8" sockets, allen sockets, or torx sockets as required for your bike. You can find it on sale occasionally for $40.

Motion Pro 10" Tire Irons
http://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08-0286-Combo-Lever/dp/B003Y8F9GA

These are very light and amazingly strong. I use them for all my tire changes and have yet to bend one. I have a 22mm and 27mm and luckily those sizes work for all 3 of my bikes. I like tools that serve a dual purpose and if you carry these, you don't need to carry the big heavy sockets or extra wrenches to remove your axle nuts.

USWE hydration pak
http://slavensracing.com/shop/challenger-a4-harness-3-0l-hydration-pak-by-uswe/

I used a Camelbak for, probably, 10-12 years, but I bought one of these last fall and it's superior in every way. On sale at Slavens now for $109.

* 4-point harness and ONE BUCKLE, no loose straps to mess with
* Wide straps for comfort on your shoulders
* Bladder is easily removable and can be turned inside out for washing, useful if you run gatorade instead of straight water
* Replacement bladders are cheap
* Built in tool pouch for a small set of tools
* If you wear an enduro tool belt around your waist, this sits high enough on your back that it does not interfere with the tool belt

Alpine MotoSafe ear plugs
https://www.alpinehearingprotection.com/earplugs/motosafe/
http://www.earplugstore.com/almonasomoea.html

These are apparently very popular in Europe. They are available in the US now, although the price has gone up since I bought mine. I still carry the foam plugs for backup, but I always use these now for long highway rides.

* Applicator, so it's easy to get them inserted properly into your ear
* Green and yellow inserts, so you can choose the level of noise protection. With the yellow, I can't hear what anyone is saying when we're stopped so I use the green
* Washable in warm water
* Nice pouch so they don't get lost in your jacket pocket. I'm always loosing the foam plugs.

So, what have you bought that exceeded your expectations?

+1^ Clay, what a great idea.   :)

I need to get some of those tie downs.   I have 2 pair now with carabiners but they don't swivel.

We almost had a disaster hauling out to Moab.  The back bike on the trailer (nearly new KTM 500) had a hook come undone from the trailer going through Denver.   Luckily it was the back one so it leaned forward against the next bike.    If it had been the other hook we'd have had a real shit show.     We duct taped the rest of the hooks after that (except mine with carabiners!).

I like those tie downs too

Once coming back from a Kart race, I hit a pot hole on the highway and looked back in the rear view mirror in time to see the Kart roll off the back of the trailer. It just bounced and rolled to a stop. Luck beats skill most times!

OK maybe I'm really slow, but I just bought an extra

Garage Door Opener

That's been dedicated to my bike - thinking for $10, it may be one of the best Farkles ever!

$10?
Such a deal.

Wait...maybe you mean the remote opposed to the opener itself?   I guess either way it's a deal.

When can I go riding again? Crashing sucks!
