CHI250

Hello

I'm a new member to this forum from eastern ND.  I am going to be heading down to the Black Hills/Eastern Wyoming area the last week of June and looking at doing some trail riding.  I have not done any riding in this area and looking for suggestions for easy going dirtbike riding.

Thanks

Welcome Dakota Dual Sport Riders CHI250 from another Eastern ND fellow.

If possible you should look at joining the group for the spring rally at the Fish n Fry Campground from the 7th - 10th.  Last year I joined up with the group at the spring rally and met a bunch of great people and they introduced me to the great trail system South of Deadwood.

Spring Rally

Later on in June I will be returning to ride the DakAL with a small group of riders.  This a dual sport ride held in conjunction with an Yamaha FJR rally based out of Spearfish.  We will be starting out with the third day of the route from Spearfish on the 26th and returning to Spearfish on the 29th.   The funny thing is the other riders think I'm the DakAL expert since I rode it last fall. ::)  You welcome to join up with us for the whole DakAL ride or a day or two.

Thanks for the welcome.  I won't be able to meet up for the spring rally, but it does look like it will be alot of fun.  I might be able to head over to Spearfish later on.

welcome.

Where in Eastern ND?  I'm down in Ellendale....the land of endless flat and straight roads.

When can I go riding again? Crashing sucks!

I'm in Grand Forks and looking forward to doing some exploring in the Black Hills trail system.

Welcome to the forum CHI.

Lots of great info from some very knowledgeable riders here. I am not really one that knows the local knowledge there as I am not local, though I am learning.

Maybe if you are a bit more specific about what you are looking to ride, your ability and so on, you may get a better answer to your query. Also, be patient, sometimes it takes time.
Did I ever tell you: " I HATE MUD!" ?

I'm from Grand Forks, now living in Rapid City,  so had to say hi and welcome!

Like greatbuffalo mentioned - give a few more details what you are looking for, and reach out again as it gets closer to time you're coming out.

I was looking to get suggestions from people who have experience riding dirtbikes in the area.  I don't necessarily have a preference, just curious to find out what sections people like to ride in.  The majority of the trails that I have seen from the maps are FSR roads or atv trails which look fun, but I was also wanting to know of any single tracks that riders in the area enjoy.  The only "trail riding" I've done is in the Pembina Gorge and I am looking forward to the varied terrain down there.  Any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks

When you buy the BHNF trail sticker, you'll get a MVUM map that has all the motorcycle single track marked on it. I think there's about 130 miles total. If you have a dirt bike I think you'd enjoy the single track more than the ATV trails.

There's usually gas available at Nemo and at the Sugar Shack on 385.

If you're from Eastern ND and want to ride some good single track, I'd also recommend finding your way over to Akeley MN at some point too.   Also has around 130 miles of single and its incredibly fun.

Thanks Jim and Hank, thats exactly what I was looking for.  I am unfamiliar with good places to ride "near" Grand Forks and I appreciate your suggestions.  I will definitely have to check out Akeley this summer as well.

you can get the MVUM maps on Avenza for free. they work very well. not sure how technical of single track you want, but I would start with 8575 and then move up from there, 8500 and 8501 are probably the most technical. If you are looking for someone to ride with let me know, I love singletrack and am always looking for an excuse to ride.

Perfect.  I will be in the Black Hills the last week of June. If your around and able to ride, that would be great.
