The 2020 Dakota Dual Sport Riders June rally will once again be held in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota!  Camping will be at the Wild Bill's campground just south of Deadwood, SD:

http://www.wildbillscamp.com/

Dates are June 18-21, 2020.  You can arrive anytime after noon on Thursday, June 18, departing on Sunday, June 21. Weather should be dry and warm - avg highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s,  BUT, this is South Dakota...if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute.  ;-)  Cell service .. who knows.. but, its only 2 miles to the top of Strawberry Mountain if you do have trouble.

Entry Fee: FREE!
Camping: Tents - $25 per person/night, RVs/Campers - $38 per night.
Cabins still available as of 5/26/20 - $70/night.

Wild Bill's number:  605-578-2800

We will have enough room for plenty of tents.  RV sites near the tent sites are at a premium and need to be reserved as far in advance as possible, although there will be plenty of RV spots available away from "ground zero".

The rally is open to any and all skill levels of riders with any motorcycle that is street legal in SD (doesn't take much: headlight, taillight & license plate is about it).  All attempts will be made to keep the amount of pavement on our rides to a minimum, but it is a necessary evil in the Black Hills to get from one trail to another sometimes.

Rides can range from gravel/easy fire roads to rocks to single track to really gnarly rocks & single track, hillclimbs, etc.  There will be something for everybody!

24hr gas station/convenience store right across the street, and Deadwood is only 10 minutes away. There are picnic tables, but if you want a guaranteed seat by the fire you better bring your own.

Electricity is available to charge cell phones, iPods, etc., however it is outside, so use at your own risk!

Firewood from outside the campground is not permitted (sometimes an exception is made for us DDSR folks, though).
Firewood on-site is probably available??

Covid-19 cooties prevent us from doing group food.   So bring some snacks.

Cars, trucks & bike trailers will have room to park, but could be a ways away from your campsite.

Hello Hank,
My name is Pat Specht from Omaha. I will be attending the rally on Friday with the Chip Monohan group. My 19 year old son will also be attending with me. We are staying at the Fish/Fry campground. We will also be riding on Tuesday but have other commitments Thursday/Saturday. Thank you very much for organizing and hosting us Nebraska folks. I grew up in Yankton and I'm looking forward to spending time in the hills.

Do you have any trail recommendations for our riding on Tuesday? We are newer/average riders so double track/average trails is all we need. I have a KTM 350 and he has a KTM 250, both with plates. I will use Avenza and the MVUM maps but just wondered if there are any specific trails or areas you would recommend.

Thanks again and looking forward to meeting all of you. Pat

Pat -

For getting into some fun easy trails, Ride South of Fish N Fry on 385 15/20miles to Sugar Shack.

There's a road that cuts to the West towards Rochford (287).  The NW quadrant of that intersection is Experimental Forest.  Those trails can be pretty fun and flowy.  Also the area just SW to Sugar Shack is not too tough. Play around on anything in the 62XX trails and you shouldn't bump into anything too nasty.

We got 2 options .....   I'm bad at links

1) google   "Black Hills National Forest MVUM permit".  This should get you into the USDA/NF web sight and pretty soon you'll bump into the online option for ordering a trail permit

2) I was just rifling through this trail permit and found out they have several vendors for the permit.  One of the vendors is the Steel Wheel Trading Post.  This is a convenience store/camp ground/gas station just a 1/4 mile down from our camp site.  Apparently you can walk in, lay your $$ on the table, and walk out with a permit

Hope this helps.

Oh yea, by the way, this year the permits are KTM orange to help some of you class up your bikes  ;D

If you are coming from the East the visitor center at exit 61 has trail permits.
